Well, im just curious if anything should be done to my car when it goes in to have its head gasket replaced? My car is approaching 115,000 miles on it, and ive noticed degraded performace lately (mostly due to the blown head gasket im sure). Im just curious if there is anything else i should have done when they are doing all this work anyway that will restore any lost power, or improve the life of my engine. What would a valve job do? shoud I have them rebuild the head? If you guys know of any wise ideas let me know, and if you know any $ figures that would be great too! (im already going to have to pay 1100 at the dealer for the headgasket, and ill have them do any additional work as well).

I think usually seals and gaskets get replaced too, and on our 5S-FE's ive heard that the valvetrain can use some reconditioning when you get a tune-up as well.

Also, an auto shop my friend works at has this engine vacuum thing that that blasts and sucks any grime deposits out of your engine when you do a tune up. So i assume that would be similar to an engine flush. wink.gif

Plugs/Wires/Cap
Oil/Lube/Tranny oil
Filters (all of them)
Check coolant, replace if needed (do a float test)
Do some easy gaskets
Timing belt???????

120,000 mile tune-up(dealer service) and a timing belt(Toyota says 60,000 miles, so it's about due again). After that it should perform like new.
