Hello everybody,
I know it probably says i'm a new member, I actually couldn't remember my sign in name, meaning there was no way I could get my password. So, here I am, spunky393. Anyways, to the point. I live in Quincy Illinois, right across the river from West Quincy, Missouri. A new-found friend of mine, Shawn Lile (one of the greatest genious and talented people i've ever met dealing with cars), and we were talking one day at his new shop in West Quincy. He was talking to me about how he wished more cars with potential would come to his shop (don't get me wrong, he has more than enough cars to work on already, he famous!). He then looked over at my white, '98 Toyo Celica GT, and said "now that car has some potential." That's where I quickly corrected him, telling him no one makes anything, at least I thought I was correcting him. Here's the kicker, If enough people on this wonderful 6th Generation Celica site want fully working headers and COLD air intakes, I would be glad to give my car up for the time he needs. Just give me feed back, PLEASE and thanks.

im sure if someone came up with a decently designed header for the 5sfe for our cars, he'd have a line of people waiting...

A header is definately something on the 'NEED' list of the celica community.. specifically the GT users, most people just go custom because of the severe lack of aftermarket for our cars.

we already have cai, those are everywhere but we really need a header for the gt. it would be nice if you could get rid of the cat while you were at it. or at least have the option

It's me again. You guys are really helping me out here, haha. For anybody wondering, the COLD air and headers would only be for the GT.

And, if you mean getting rid of the converter that is built right into the stock factory headers, yes. If you mean driving around without any converter at all, that's just a bad idea. It turns out our 2.2 5S-FE engine can't run without having a little back pressure. So, a little turbo converter (built in the exaust pipingof course) and the nice turbo flow muff, that turns out to be the perfect or somewhat perfect backpressure combo.

WRITE BACK PEEPS

Hey Sinner, i just read your details, is it a true ST? or do you have the 2.2 under the hood?

Yeah it's an ST..

Also you might want to check around for 90's Camry aftermarket parts.. or the 90's MR-2 with the 5SFE engine in it. Most of the parts are interchangeable.

The problem with the MR-2 headers for the 5S-FE (hotshot makes them), is the angle of our engine. It's about 40 degrees back (if i remember right) meaning attaching the mr-2 headers would cause the "out" part of the headers to point nearly towards the ground.

One quick question, would you guys want the stuff shipped to you from his shop if you indeed bought his finished product, or how does that work on here?

Well, if anybody is curious about the cold air intake, he'll design it to more than likely go under the battery tray, and somehow get it in front of the radiator, meaning little to no chance of getting in a puddle (inless you drive into a lake) and the freshest blast of cold air.

Thanks everybody for helping out. Lets not set up a group buy yet, we don't even have the headers made. Let me take care of it when we get to that, but thanks for the offer. Hopefully, my next message will consist of material types, and what type of headers, this is a long process to build headers, so everyone keep given their input, keep telling their celica gt friends, and keep their cool. THANKS.

Ok, here we go everybody.

Headers: Steel obviously, maybe coated by jet, maybe we'll do something our selves that will be and look just as good and won't cost near as much. Don't know how large the piping or anything like that yet... But will have a prototype in 30 days, will bring pictures on and off my car. estimated price - 450-500

Cold air: Probably steel, more than likely. Aluminum isn't much lighter and is much harder to bend, and as we all know MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE. Probably the same coating, but coating will be later. Don't have any prices yet. And there isn't much reason to make the piping anybigger than the intake already. So if you want to know the size of the piping, go measure for yourself, haha. I really don't know when that'll be done, but since the front of the car will be torn apart to get the best set of headers we can, we'll probably start building the cold air right then and there. We may have to go on to pre-orders so we can get a mendral bending machine, meaning faster for us, easier for us, cheaper for you.

Please give me your opinions, and i'll check back soon.

Sounds like the filter goes inside the left fender then ssnake.

I'm not in on the header, but just wondering because there has been so much interest, do you guys not have any aftermarket headers available in the states?

I would interested in getting a header.I hope this won`t be a one time offer ,all of my money right know is going towards a body kit and paint. With limited cash flow for car a header may not be able be purchased until the Winter.Anyways I must say that I would most definatly buy one of these as soon as I could afford it!! biggrin.gif

You come out with a Header and CAI, with hopefully a Dyno sheet and Im down It'll take a minute to save up the cash. But I would be very weary w/o a dyno run, just to prove some sort of gain. smile.gif Not that I dont trust you its just I dumped $1100 for like lets say 5HP.....hope you understand.

Yes, i appreciate your concern Turbo, but there's one little problem. No one in little Quincy Illinois has a dyno, just a couple talented people here and there (domestic anyways), and then you have people like me and shawn, and who ever else that makes things when we expect it to do something better. I DO WISH we had a dyno, but you know just as well as i do how much those damn, but wonderful, things are. I apologize Turbo. I really do wish there was some way.

I bought the same CAI from 95celgt it goes where the stock air box went. You take out the entire intake piping/box assembly and in the wheel well you will see a little whole already cut so your intake can take cold air from the fender. All you do is widen the hole. Havent gotten mine completely in yet but hopefully it will be done soon, I will post pics once it is up. 95celgt made some awesome shiz for me and all kudos goes to him. Oh and by the way I may want a header for the GT.

Jayi or anybody else in st. louis. Where would be a easy place to get the dyno runs done? And how long does something like that take? Keep on asking for the headers, we are officially starting on it this week. It'll be fun, i'll get pictures when we're finished.

I'm definetly in for a header and possibly the cold air also. PLEASE make this happen! a group buy is also a great idea. I got the cash - ready when you are.
Somebody start a list for header and for CAI so we can see about this group buy.

I'll start a list as soon as i know this is going to be finished on a certain date. Once again i apologize for being behind on fabrication, but like i said, i broke my hand. I started working on it again, two days ago, as soon as i could grab back onto something without getting to much pain, so wish me luck, thanks

Yes - finish the GT's. And please don't make it to expensive. You seem to have alot of people interested so it shouldn't cost to much if everyone goes in at once.

You don't exactly understand the process of making the headers. The price of one header for a group of 40 individuals is going to cost the same as a group of 10. I don't own a mass production company, hahahaha. They'll probably be as much as any other high-performance header.

i never posted price, but i was thinking about it, and it really depends on how much business i'm going to make off of this, ya know, the more people, the more profit, so the price wouldn't have to be just as high as normal, normal equaling 50 people.

sorry I totally forgot about this thread, I checked it out, and I had a quote of $75 a run, but the dude that works there said there was a place out in west county that apparently does 3 runs for $100. I'm still looking into that

haha, well thanks for coming back and writing to me jayi, i appreciate your effort to find some dyno's. The great news about that part, is there is the possibility my dad may be investing into my ingenious friend's shop, a 35,000 dollar investment into a dyno.

thanks shigexile for being interested, i'll keep everything updated.

i'm just wondering if the 5sfe header is going to happen. I would be down for a NA header. I'm going to just rebuild the bottom end and P&P the head.

Alright, i've got a new idea everyone. Two things are gonna have to be discussed. First off, this guy that is supposed to be making my flanges, screw him, he's out of the picture. Now, to cover up for that, (this is kidna directed to people with parts cars and people that still have parts left over from the 5s-fe from the swaps. If i could get a full, exaust manifold from someone that isn't using it (exaust manifold all the way down to the second converter), i would be able to get this done much quicker, and it would be more reliable as in fitting.

Second topic. Anyone with-in 120 miles (or so) of Quincy Illinois (my home) that has a direct link up to a dyno is garranteed the second header made. I don't want to rip anybody off with the headers, so that means, if i don't like the numbers it puts out, i'll change it to do better, then we'll be in business, we'll own Celica GT's with headers.

I am an engineer at a manufacturing company. We have a huge machine shop with CNC's, CNC Lathes, robotic welding equipment etc. What are we talking about on those flanges? Perhaps we could make them. Do you have a drawing with dimensions or anything like that to work from?
If you want I'd be willing to help in whatever way I could. Especially if it meant finally getting a header for my car. PM me if your interested.

they're bolt-on's, so would that mean it's pretty easy to install yourself?

I...like many others....would definitely be interested in getting a header for my GT. Just in case I run into more turbo problems.

Please keep us updated, or if anyone can find them elsewhere.

alright, to bring this topic back to life, after christmas, i'm going to go talk to my guy, and tell him i want it done, and i need it done for my community. That should work because he's pretty cool about orders. I'll have to start a new topic soon, but, how bout i hear price ranges, and please people, don't be stupid and inconcitterate (spelling). Thank you, this is for the 6GC, 5s-fe. And will be fitted on a manual, but shouldn't matter....
