Well, I've been messing around w/ wrapping stuff in carbon fiber and whatnot........and I've gotten pretty good. The more I do, the better I get and the nicer it looks. I was thinking, if any of you guys are interested in having stuff wrapped in carbon fiber, you can let me know and I can do it for a fee thats really cheap. I'll probably charge you the cost of materials and like $20-40 for labor depending on how big the project is. The material itself is really cheap.......example: it'll cost you around $50-$70 for materials to do a whole hood.....so smaller stuff like fuel lid will cost you like $10 for materials. So far, I can do:

*center console
*door panels
*fuel lid
*Canard splitters
*any flat things I can make.....like small splitters and stuff
*wrap our dash pieces.....I am going to do piece by piece as I have time and take pictures

stuff I probably wouldn't do:

*hood...takes too much time, and its a pain in the ass to keep the weave perfect
*trunk- same reason as the hood
*front diffuser- its basically just a big piece of flat carbon fiber.......I can do it but.......if I have time I can actually.
*doors
*fenders
*bodykits
*pretty much anything big.....I can do all the little things

I WILL UPDATE W/ PICS SHORTLY IN A WEEK OR SO........CAUSE I HAVE EXAMS THIS WEEK, SO I AM BUSY. IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY IDEAS OF STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE IN CARBON FIBER.........JUST POST ON HERE AND LET ME KNOW. FEEL FREE TO PM ME ALSO.

Could you wrap our mirrors in carbon fiber, or would that be hard because of the curves and keeping the weave perfect?

I would absolutely love to have APR-style carbon fiber mirrors for my car, especially since I don't have the controller to adjust my mirrors anymore. smile.gif

Wouldn't mind mirrors and the fuel lid. Not really to up on sending that stuff away though.

I think he's *wrapping* only. So unless you have an existing one from Lotek to wrap I don't think he can do that.

Easy... get a lotek pod and a stock pillar and cut/hack/mold them together with fiberglass until it looks good and you have the basic shape. This is just going to be for your cast so it doesn't matter if it looks good or not. Then make your mold from this piece and do it all up in carbon fiber.

Of course doesn't this peice have to flex a bit to install/remove from the car? Would have to make sure that the thickness of the carbon fiber isn't so much that it's not a bit flexible.

I would get my mirrors (actually I'd like 5th gen mirrors) Anyone got some for sale?
I'd also be interested in: gauge pod
my supra style spoiler (not mine yet, but close enough)
plastic mold that goes @ the base of the shifter in autos

If you can make the gauge pod and cover the other stuff for me that would be great. I did a lot of cf stuff on my car already so I know its pretty tricky. Thanks for offering to do all this stuff.

OKAY GUYS, HERE IS THE DEAL. I GOT 2 MORE WEEKS OF SCHOOL LEFT. AFTER I GET DONE W/ EXAMS......I AM GOING TO A JUNKYARD AND BUYING **** FROM MESSED UP CELIS AND WRAPPING THEM. I WILL POST A LOT OF PICS!!! ALOOOTTTTTT OF EM. I can do them for people who are serious.......I am not too sure how much stuff will cost, but I can swear I am not trying to rip anyone off. I just want money for labor......cause its a lot of work. Here is how you do it, for anyone who wants to do it themselves:

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CARBON FIBER PARTS OR WRAP CARBON FIBER STUFF:

step 1: buy "carbon fiber cloth" off ebay......normally they're around $30 for a good roll. I got the 2x2 twill ones....which is pretty thick.

step 2: buy the Resin and Hardener......you can buy these at Michaels or A.C Moores......any arts and craft store. it'll be in the wood stuff area. Its in a purplish/blue box and on the box is a pic of the resin being poured on a table. I'll post the name of the resin and stuff later, when I get back home. These resin are normally from $8-$42, You'll be using a lot of resin actually....so get a lot of em.

step 3: mix equal part resin and equal part hardener in a disposable bowl, and brush it on your part w/ a disposable brush.

step 4: place your carbon fiber piece on the part, wrap it well.......and put resin over the carbon fiber.

step 5: you gotta wait for it to dry in 24 hours

step 6: cut excess carbon fiber after it dries...I use a special saw tool, and I sand the edges

step 7: put another layer of resin on, and wait for it to dry in 24 hours

step 8: sand it down w/ 40 grit, then 80 grit, then 200, then 400 grit
make sure you clean off the sand dust.

step 9: put another layer of resin on it, and wait for it to dry

step 10: repeat step 8 again

step 11: it should be nice now.......so clean off all the sand dust....and spray a good few layers of clear on it so it'll be shiny.

THIS IS THE REASON WHY I AM TAKING REQUESTS.........IF I CAN DO A BUNCH OF PARTS ALL AT ONCE, I CAN WAIT FOR IT TO DRY AND PUT ANOTHER LAYER ON.......DOING ONE PART BY ONE WOULD TAKE ME FOREVER TO DO.

You should make an official how to and make it on something easy...say...a fuel lid? Which, by the way, I will buy if you find one at a junkyard and I see pics and i like em

You see, I am a mechanical engineering student. I'll try to get a pic of my blueprint on here so you guys can see. I have access to facilities and parts, so I can make the stuff I need. These coming 2 weeks are baddd for me though, so afterwards.....I"ll have time to show you guys.

you've got me all excited about this. apparently its super easy just overlaying, no need for a mold or vacuum bagging. definetly a fun summer project, wrap everything in carbon fiber smile.gif

also re: the resin from what I read on fibreglast. epoxy is good for strength, but vinyl ester should be used for parts that will be exposed to a lot of sunlight. oh and polyester resin can not be used with carbon fiber.

Yeah man, the process is pretty easy dude.....its just time consuming. Definately try to do it man........I am just offering to do it for anybody who are not good at artsy type stuff......cause it actually requires some skill to be able to lay the cloth on perfect and wrap it well and mold it well. You know what I mean thought right?

yeah man, its awesome your willing to overlay for people. I haven't tried it yet but if its not too hard I might take a couple jobs as well. hopefully being an art student means I can do this pretty well wink.gif

Aiight, its an epoxy resin and has polyamine hardener. The brand that I use is titled:

EnviroTex Lite
Pour-on
High Gloss Finish
Prserves & Beautifies

One Thick Coast
Equals up to
50 COATS
of Varnish
