Any Rim/Tire Combos on TireRack.com any good? Options

I've got a completely stock '96 Celica ST 25th Anniversary and want to put larger and lower profile tires. Are any of the stuff on tirerack.com worth getting to start out?

Nothing there tickled my interest to be honest..if your serious bout hooking up your celi, then check out wheels by volk/advan..enkei, konig, adr, zigen those are just a few..personally im not a fan of stuff you can buy at places like tirerack, pep boys..auto zone..etc....but thats just me

Fair enough. What about their tires though? All the brands you're mentioning are the wheels, right?

I was looking at getting more low profile than my current tires.. was looking at the Pirelli PZero Nero blackwall over there... not the way to go with the rubber either?

tirerack has some nice namebrand wheels and tires. i dont see any reason not to buy from them. their customer service is very good too.

if i were you id look for some 17x8 rims with 225-45-17 tires. the common 17x7s dont look right on the 6th gen because the wheels are not flush with the cars body.

Tirerack is a very good site to order tires from. I just ordered tires from their today and they will be here thursday. Everybody i know goes through tire rack and they have the lowest price i have found any where.

Let me rephrase. Tire Rack may have good service and prices, however their selection bites ass.

Tirerack is a very good vendor. I have yet to hear a horror story from them and they do a hell of a lot of business. I bought my KYB's there and it was the fastest shipping ever. If they had the wheels I wanted, I would order from them in a heart beat. I also think their tire prices are very very good. Also, BBK wheels are some of the best quality wheels out there (if you like the style) so I wouldn't say they only carry crap.

As for the question of what the tire sizing means, it has been asked a hundred times but let me try to sum it up and then all noob questions can be directed to this thread:

First number (i.e. 225): width of tire (that part that touches the ground) in mm
Second number (i.e. 45) width of the sidewall as a percentage of the first number - 45% of 225 or 101.25 mm.
Third number (i.e. 17) rim size

When plus sizing tires (increasing from the stock wheels) the profile is generally lowered to maintain close to the same overall circumfrance of the outside tire. If the circumfrance is larger than stock, the speedo will read too slow. On the other hand, if the circumfrance is smaller than stock the speedo will read too fast. Also, changing the circumfrance changes the net gear ratio for the car so this will affect performance (not necessarily adversly).
