So my friend and I are rolling down and we come up to a red light and end up waiting. A red Celica rolls up from behind us to right next to us and rolls down his window and asks if its a GT or GTS, so I told him its a GT. tongue.gif He laughs and asks me to race him, so I said sure. I asked him whats done, since I previously had one and he revved his engine and the BOV screamed, so i'm guessing it was Turbo, so I gave him thumbs up and said "Nice.", and he replied its a GT. Then being a smart-ass he said "Ready to get your ass handed to you?", I just kind of laughed and put my sunroof back. I'm guessing he either bought a Turbo Kit for a GT, or had a 3S swap, I was leaning towards the 3SGTE Swap.

So light goes green and we both took off. If anyone knows a GTS, we have no low-end torque from 2000 - 6000RPM. Well, all you hear is my Intake Scream and this Turbo Celica takes off on me by about a 1/2 - 1 car length and his BOV goes and his buddy is video taping and laughing at us. Next thing, lift engages (I lied, its a modified GTS) and he lost his 1/2 Car length and his buddies face drops. Going through 2nd Gear Lift I have nothing but constant pull. Nothing like a little Natural Aspiration over Turbo. As I chirpped into 3rd gear, his buddy was still taping and he actually had my speed matched and may have had a little pull but he was sitting around my rear bumper, but revving out 4th gear he just dropped back into my rear-view mirror and 5th I just breaked and backed off.

Was a good race, looked like he had a small intercooler on the front, nothing to grande', an Erebuni Kit and an OEM CF Hood. Car looked clean, I gave him thumbs up until he flew past us giving me the finger, then I lost respect... But nonetheless, i'd like to know who it was for ****s-n-giggles, i'd like to see that video too.

Haven't had the GTS at the track.

TwinCelica.com is a website another 7GC'er and I are working on. We are both in the same Club, just waiting to get some pictures and video's together while we work on our Cars. He's pretty much the "Show" Celica heading for that nice Silver Paint with Blue Pearl I believe, and i'm heading in the "Go" area with my GTS, looking to get my hands on an XS Engineering Turbo Kit, but thats not going to happen till Winter time hopefully.

RareToy.com is my buddy Carl's buddies site. The guy in the area here is a very cool 600wHP (I think?) Supra owner, with alot of sponsor's, and is sponsoring Carl a T88 Turbocharger and a Turbo Kit for his NA. Its pretty ridiculous, but Carl just got 3" Flares on his Supra, and got the whole car repainted. Its very sweet.

he probably had a turbo kit running low boost, cause a 3sgte would own you.

Of course.

If you want high-end power, i'd go Injen Cold-Air Intake, it also gives the deepest, best sound of all the CAI and SRI for the GTS. You can also go AEM Cold-Air Intake too, that'll benefit you in the low-end. As far as a Header goes, DC Sport just put alot of time and money into making a Header for the GTS. Its Dyno proven a good + 9.3wHP and + 8.8 Torque, and its an affordable 260$. Trial, a very high name brand for the GTS makes a stainless steel header with great gains, but thats in the 850$ range, but there is a Header produced that actually reduces power, but I can't remember the name of it. Exhaust, the Greddy EVO2 Exhaust looks nicer and is only about 2 decibels higher than stock, also gives out .2wHP under the TRD Exhaust, and thats the other very good exhaust. So I threw away the .2wHP and went with the better looking of the two. As far as performance gains go, I believe they show up with a good +6wHP.

I know as far as Dyno's go, a GTS runs stock about 162wHP, with the Injen CAI it ran a 170wHP, but with the Header and Exhaust i'm not too sure of an end result. But i'm going to take a guess and say its around 180 - 185wHP. If she gets the I/E/H upgrades, then she should get her hands on an Apexi SAFC2 or an Apexi Power FC and get it Dyno Tuned, it'll help as well. My aftermarket fuel parts don't really help all that much, I upgraded them now since my GTS has a good bit of miles, and the Stafford Fab Fuel Rail has a Center Port for Direct Nitrous, and 2 end ports for Gauges etc, so its a very nice Fuel Rail.

[edit] The GTS handles performance modifications great, with just an Injen CAI and TWM Shortshifter, you can eat a stock GTS alive. Thats another thing, TRD Shortshifter and TWM Shortshifter are the best, TWM is a tad shorter though, thats what I have installed.[/edit]

Let me know if you got any q's.

Overall how would you compare the feel of the 7th gen Celica? (i.e. the speed, the drivability and response, feel, layout, etc?)
I sat in a new GTS 6-spd and i cant help but think about how awesome it would be to drive one. Feels very much like my GT but with some modern refinement and more sleek. Also i love the way the wheel, shifter, and pedals feel...very precise. Let me know what you think in comparison to a 6th gen.

Well lets put it this way. When I sold my 6GC, I was going to either buy a 1998 Eclipse GSX, a WRX or a Celica GTS. I drove them all, took awhile to decide and went with the GTS. I personally felt more comfortable with a GTS. The interior is ALOT better than any others, the seats, the vents, the console, the steering wheel, the stainless steel racing pedals, it just made the GTS feel more like a sports car. I have a buddy with a GT, and when I drove his GT, it just made me laugh at how much more powerful a GTS is. The handeling between a 6G and 7G are almost identical, I use to be able to put people to shame in the handeling of my old 6G, but I don't feel much difference, maybe a little more lean, but not much at all. The most exciting thing about the GTS is VVTLI. When your driving, you feel lift, you feel the pull and it puts you in your seat. I love my 7G, thats why i've been going straight for performance mods, just because she has the room to rip the road apart with little modification.

I've always disliked the 7G Celica while I had my 6G just because they were the new kids on the block, but when I got my hands on one for a weekend, it literally changed my world. Got back in a 6G and was disappointed, and missed VVTLI. Got in a GT and laughed and said "this is a new Celica? hah.". I had to buy the GTS, it was like crack, I needed it.

If anyone knows a GTS, we have no low-end torque from 2000 - 6000RPM

first gear is pretty miserable in that car.

after that though, its a decent car.

the turboxs kit is way overpriced, imo, a celica gts should only recieve NA mods to be a fun and quick daily driver

you definately can feel when lift kicks in, but i still dont like it as a performance feature, because it isnt, its made for economy

the interior is nice, especially the seats, and even more so when compaired to a GSX, but if it was me, i would have gone with the GSX

I didnt want the GSX. Have too many friends burning oil and having to many modification issues. Mitsu's were ranked one of the worst for performance modifications, ontop of that, i've beaten GSX's already (except smart modified ones obviously).
