I hear about people on here all the time that lower their cars and think it's not low enough. So, I have started leaning towards GC coil overs or aerospeeds.
The only problem I have with coil overs is that they supposedly make some noise. Do you guys with them have a problem with it? SO, I was thinking.... if I put the sleve on the shock, and welded it to the shock, it would be FIRMLY in place, and then if I were to put on the actual mount that the spring sits on, and place a rubber washer or something on top of it, the spring wouldn't rattle or creak at all. Awaiting your thoughts... also, some E-bay coilovers look Ok... maybe... Jon |

the ebay coilovers are crap. i've ridden on them. boy it was scarey. I have the GC coilovers, and as far as the noise goes, a little bit of grease on the perch and bearings, and that completely eliminates any noise. that's really about it. other than that, they are great.

yup I put grease on the perch and zip-tied the spring to it... ghetto, but it seems to work, no more popping noise.

Just a word of advice with what I've experienced with the GC's, I took mine off yesterday and replaced them with Teins and KYB's and i ran into a problem with the sleeve that goes on the housing.
We tried to take mine off yesterday and the sleeve ended up seizing on the shock housing and couldn't even remove it. We looked at the other side and same thing....plus there was a crack on the bottom of the sleeve where it sits on the strut. I dont think that GC even thought about that sleeve possibly cracking like mine did. But after seeing it I'm really glad that I decided to take them off. I dont think I'd feel safe with any other coliover unless it was a COMPLETE coilover system. So if you're thinking about just using your existing housing be aware that taking them off to replace them might give you major problems. |

the noise doesn't come from the sleeve. It's from the top and bottom of the coil.

Hey Fallen, If you're planning on welding the sleeve to the housing what's going to happen if you need to replace your shocks? Bonding it to the housing will make the shock unaccessible if you'd need to replace the shock. |

I plan on replacing them with GR2's before I install the springs and such, so they should last a long long time.

i'm going to get some koni's to go with my gc's. i bought some monroe struts but they can't handle being lowered, so if your going to weld the sleeves to a strut (that's what i'm doing too) i wouldn't use stock replacement shocks, the adjustability is what you will need.
just trying to help. the ride quality sucks ass on stock shocks, i just hope it gets better with the koni's. hell, if they can keep me from bottoming out i'll be happy. |

ehh, don't the springs keep you from bottoming out? thats why, in auto-x, when you have very high rate springs, they sometimes remove the bump stop altogether. to give it a little more travel, because they know the high spring rates will keep it from completely bottoming out and destroying the strut. meh, i dunno. whatever... |

gee, maybe when i hit a bump, hear the loud thud, and see the top of my fender pop like it just got bitch slapped it's just my springs not letting me bottom out.
