Im considering thi 99 celica GT
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?&car...=&ac_afflt=none

I love how it looks and it drives pretty decent but its really nothing spectacular under the hood. Im currently driving a 93 Accord and the performance difference isnt dramatic at all
What does attract me to it though is that it looks great and it has a good setup for my carputer (double DIN in a good location for a LCD)

Im hoping some of you guys could maybe step in and put my low performance fears to rest

Im also considering the SC300 which is a much better performer but because of the price and carputer opportunity of the Celica Id really like to go with it

well, our cars arent the fastest stock ill admit that, but they look nice as hell, they handle great, and if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

but if you want performance you have a options
3sgte swap
4age swap
7afte setup
5sfte setup

they can be pricey or cheap depends where u buy your parts, im currently doin a 5sfte and ive spent almost nothing and i have alot of parts already im actually almost done and expecting a nice power difference that will satisfy me. but its all up to you and your wallet

Why would he swap to a 7a-fte setup? That seems a bit pointless.

It all depends on what you want Dan. Most people who buy celicas don't mind the fact that they are FWD cars, so the performance doesn't matter that much to them. If you like putting your foot down I would suggest something else though, maybe a 5th gen alltrac celica.

only good thing about the not so super performance are the lower insurance rates tongue.gif

do bolt on mods like short ram intake really make any noticeable difference?
i cant really see myself doing a full swap, not skilled enough; bolt ons should be no problem though

It depends. I have started going that way, because I plan on keeping this car for a while. Some guys have thrown turbos on the stock motors, but those engines are still pretty piss-weak. I don't like to speak like that in front of them (no offense guys) but it's true. If you are used to v8's and twin turbos stay away from celicas, but they are a beautiful car & good for a daily driver.

I feel that the drivability/modification of these cars is mainly limited by the FWD not the engine. We have the option to swap a nice turbo engine in (3s-gte) but no one has successfully completed and documented an AWD swap, although there are people who have done it. It is pretty much accepted here that it's no plausible. So If you can get past the first stumbling block of FWD you will fall in love with your car. The handling for a FWD is actually really nice, and with a few suspension mods can be really great.

Some of the workshops in Japan are unreal though, I have seen a 350z custom fitted with a rb26dett and the full ATTESSA AWD system. Those guys could convert a GT to GT4 in a blink of the eye.

As for breathing mods, they will make a big difference, but not in rated power. My car with a full high flo exhaust & intake drives thru the revs much faster, & with a lighened flywheel the engine is WAY more responsive than I would have thought. But i wouldn't have gained all that much on the 1/4.
