the remote start will only work if im in the car pushing in the clutch how do you make it work

nope, if you can get someone to do it, you MUST leave the car in NEUTRAL ALL THE TIME, you don't need to start it with the clutch or key. hence the term REMOTE start. you bypass the clutch possition sensor button so you can remote start it

Yeah, I bypassed the switch in my car for my remote start. You just have to be very careful. My car has remote started into a cement wall of my garage before.

I stuck a piece of wire between the two terminals of the clutch switch. I think it was the switch closest to the firewall, but I'm not sure. I can find out tonight for sure if you'd like me to.

I know if you search there was a big thread about this.. I know my bros backed into my boat did some damage, search an theres pics on there, Also, i have mine bypassed so i dont have to use the clutch, but i have to set up my alram for the remote start, witch iv been to lazy for.

no e-brake chris? I'm not sure if the e-brake would hold a car in 1st gear but at 5mph i think it would.

Oh, the e-brake was up, but a car that's cranking with the car in first gear has some serious power(and potential for damage/loss-of-life.) -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I ran through my girlfriends garage door last winter with my remote start. It was okay cause her dad is loaded and bought a new door himself, but the worst part was I had to help him paint the door. Moral of the story : Just be careful with remote start or you may have to spend a day with someone painting a garage door. |

I stand corrected. I never leave mine in gear, but it would not be fun it it slipped accidentely into gear without me knowing. I've hear of people building relays that if their cars are in gear the remote start wont work. Any ideas on how to do this? I had remote start on my Eclipse and plan to do so on the Celi within the summer. |

Another option instead of running a wire between the two is to strip each and twist them together. It is the one directly above the clutch against the firewall, Its easiest to unclip it to get to it. Turbo, Coomer had put a switch on his I think try this link it may help Remote Start in Manual |

If you do that, then it is irreversable. If you just run the wire between the two connectors then you could take it out and still start you car if the need came. Like if you were trying to sell your car for some reason and you had to tell the person that they need to be very careful not to have the car in gear when they tried to start it. |

yea, you don't want to butcher your wires. that would be a poor(ghetto) job. it will be better in the end if you do it neatly and not the rigged way.
i liked it when i had remote start in other celica bc i didn't have to push in clutch to start the car, even when im inside it. even tho it becomes habit to push it in b4 you crank it. |

A buddy of mine has a remote starter in his SS III beams but its automatic. He is able to start the car from very far away as the remote starter is part of his antitheft/alarm system.
I want to get such an alarm so he told me that the newer alarms have some kind of sensors that prevent the car from starting if in gear. I will try to get some info on this and let you know |

I've visited best buy and circuit city and good guys and some shady audio place nearby. They all say that its illegal for them to install remote start on manual cars.

Well, you have a few options here:
1) Buy a "manual transmission" starter. With these, you have to put the car in neutral, get out, and shut the door. The car will shut itself off and arm the system. If you open a door, it cancels and you won't be able to remote start. Basically the system ensures that the car is in neutral. I bought a CompuStar, which is both automatic/manual, so I went this route. Kind of annoying if you forget something in the car and have to open the door, but it's the safest way to go. 2) Buy an automatic remote starter and install it yourself (because no reputable shop will do it for you) and then hope you always remember to leave it in neutral. 3) Construct your own neutral safety switch. One guy did this by installing a spring around his gearshift (under the boot) which would contact the shift lever if it wasn't in neutral. Sounded kinda hard to do a clean job with it. Whichever way you go, you've gotta bypass the clutch. Most remote starters have an ground output that activates when you press START. Connect that wire to a relay. Connect the other side of the relay coil to constant +12V. Now tap into each wire going into the clutch switch and connect them to pins 30 and 87 on the relay. This will result in the clutch switch being bypassed ONLY if you're remote starting. The clutch switch is closest to the firewall... the other one is for the cruise. |
