Your oil filter might not be tightened enough or the gasket isnt mating with the block correctly on the filter. Try taking it off and putting it back on or getting a new one. The latter being a better choice. That seems like the only place that could have enough oil pressure to squirt like that to me. Hope that helps a bit.

Put your d@mn oil cap back on man!! tongue.gif

J/K. Oil leaks scare me. Check all your gaskets to begin with, but I would think it would be leaking down and not spattering on the hood if it were that. I'd just look under the hood with the engine running for a while and see if you notice anything. You may just have a cracked or loose line that needs to be replaced/tightened.

It actually happened to me. I felt like a complete idiot. I went to Cali and did a full tune up and forgot to screw the cap all the way. rolleyes.gif Good thing I keep extra oil in the trunk.

From the kinda clean strip down the middle it looks like your belts are flinging it up. Get a can of degreaser and clean off your engine then check it in a coulple of days and see where the leak is. Either you got oil on something when changing it or there is a leak somewhere.

I get that sometimes too, and sometime soon when I've got time I'll check into it further.

I have the same thing going on, albeit to a lesser degree. Mine looks like road grime and old filth that gets on the belts being thrown on the hood. I never really thought too much about it, as it seems to accumulate very slowly and I'm not losing any oil. Like everyone said, check for oil leaks and look at the power steering pump to see if it has any buildup of old fluid on it.

its caused by the belts

water and dirt and dust and sometimes spilled out get on the belts and when the car is on it splatters on the hood, if you look, its in the shape of the belt setup and its right above the belt

That looks like you took a picture of my hood. It is thrown up there by the belts but I havn't been able to figure out where it is coming from. I cleaned it off about two months ago and now I only have a few spots so it can't be something major - yet. I also don't seem to be losing any oil but it's definetly oil on the hood.

im gonna have to agree here. with as many people that have the same problem, myself included, i find it hard to believe we all have the same oil leak unless its a defect on the celicas engine, i check my oil regularly and it never really loses any between changes but i always get that lil strip above my belt
