I keep spilling large sodas in my car. They will not fit in my cup holder by the ashtray. Im thinking of making some kind of cup holder. Anybody have a solution?

I hate the tiny cupholder that we have...maybe you could cut out the portion b/w the 1st and 2nd and modify it to have a size adjuster thing in there

I just hate the location, you have to bend your arm in ways it wasn't meant to be bent just to try and shift. So I say don't just make it bigger, move it somewhere else also.

well i found that a soda can fit there perfect and i can even rest my arm on it cause it's even with the arm rest.. and as for new cup holders here is my idea you can go to any parts store and get one of those hanging cup holder.. the ones that u hook up to the window or air vents... and can hold a 32oz soda and 8oz cup.. and some how find a way to mold that onto the side of the center consel .. on the passanger side.. or just make it were it hooks up to something so you can take it off when not in use and throw it into the glove box..

I was looking into this issue a while back and one solution is to add the cup holder from the 90-95 Taurus (I didn't end up doing it because I put my guages there). In any event, its a DIN unit that fits in the slot below your head unit and slides in and out as needed. It also has a tray for coins too. Here is a pic:

There is at least one on Ebay for $10 right now if you are interested.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

ahh i had this problem too, but what i do now is since i have some random small items in my center console storage box, i just put large cups there and surround it with my head unit cover and whatever else is in there so it wont move...and if its loose just keep your hand on your stick/gear so that your elbow kinda blocks it in place...kinda weird i know but hey it works.

buy a medium soda. biggrin.gif or something in a bottle. I always buy bottled sodas if I'm driving. I just get a drink and then put the lid back on and either put the bottle in the passenger seat or the back seat.

The cup wouldn't be at an angle. The only thing you would have to worry about is whether there is enough room between the cup holder tray and the horizontal trim piece around the shifter. I don't know if it would be mounted too low in our cars. Here are a couple other pics with the unit open:

jgreening, looks like a cool cupholder, I will look into this. But arenīt the slots the same size as the cup holder we have now? Another thing is will the cup sticking out scratch the head unit or drench the face with sticky soda? One more thing... will it interfere with the shifter? I think it was either the PT Cruiser or the Mini Cooper that had a cupholder that interfered with 3rd gear...

All great questions Ed. Unfortuately, I don't know of anyone who has installed this in our cars yet. This is just an idea that I had and I am passing it on. I think we should wait to see if Moltar has good luck since he bought one.
