Best run was a 17.7 frown.gif

I did beat a riced out lancer than ran an 18.8

Lost in the second round to a trans am

It was the types of racing where you use your dial in.

I'm really dissapointed, I thought it would atleast be a little faster

ST - 105hp, GT - 135hp... so no. I ran an 18.954 with my ST. Half tank of gas, sub in the back, spare tire/jack were still in as well. It's an automatic, and I didn't power brake, so I'd imagine a 18.4 for a stripped automatic. And 18 flat for a manual ST.

Kwanza does have probably the best non-swap/spray timeslip on the site. I'd assume that he's gotten better than that too, seeing as that slip has a 1.259 R/T.. mucho room for improvement. So it's safe to say he's in the 15's.

r/t doesnt count in the 1/4 time. And as far as I know, kwanza's engine isnt built. His mods are listed in his info. Pretty much, he's just a genius who knows how to GET R DONE!

No I didn't spray. The engine was refreshed a bit back in april or may (head cleaned up, minor gasket-match job, cleaned internals, injectors, fuel system... etc)... I forget exactly when, but it was during a headgasket job, which turned into a minor re-build (to fix a slight knock)... I was running pretty clean. My SAFC was also tuned on a smog machine (funny... but worked ok...) and my car is/was running fairly good (got some pinging at idle now). Motor is stock... only with bolt-ons and tuning. The tuning is what makes the big differences in this case.

As for the runs... 16 flat was the best I've ever run. I ran 3 or 4 times that day, and put it anywhere between 16.5 and 16.1... 16.0 was the first run I ran. Also, I was running slicks on some 15 inch Rotas in the front, and some ghetto 15 inch ADRs in the rear. I tested launches anywhere from 3500 rpms to 5000 rpms... The back of my car was stripped down, and my passenger seat was removed. I didn't weigh in that day, but I'd guesstimate around 2500 or so with me in the car. I weigh about 160-165 btw.

Finally... SlowCelica is correct about the r/t... The Reaction time measures your ability to race-launch your car and makes little difference towards your 1/4 mile time. The reason I had a bad reaction... the guy next to me was HELLA LOUD I couldn't hear shiat. I usually have fairly good reaction times (around .500 to .600... Sac raceway is on a .500 system)... the 60' time is what most accurately measures how good of traction you get off the line, and that is what makes the good runs. That is the reason why AWD cars can run such quick times. In my case... 1.8 60' was something I woulda never thought possible in a FF car... but there it is. My celica is now pretty much retired from the performance scene...

1.8 60" time? Wow. Amazing!

Slicks tho, I'm wondering what you'd run on street tires

I've gotten as good as 2.0 60 footers on street tires... but I usually average around 2.2-2.3 in the mid-high 16's on street tires...

Best I've gotten so far was the week I bought my car I took it to the track. 17.7 bone stock no weight reductions and its a manual ST I guess thats pretty good for the ST then. Now I have 2.5 in piping to my muffler an air fuel chip and an intake so it may be quicker now. But also My mechanic said I am loosing mad compression so I dunno I need to get back out to the track. My best reaction time is .0251 by the way. on stock 14"s I dont know what my 17"s would do.

Believe it. I've had two GT's - one manual, one auto. The Auto was soooo much slower. And no it's not perception or a bad tranny - the manual just makes alot of difference.

wow these times are all over the place, i took my 5spd GT to the track last summer and ran a 15.7 and all i had done to it was a changed muffler and i took off the airbox so there was no filter and no piping, just wide open air flow to the intake manifold. i had the stock 15 inch gt rims and i shifted at 6000rpm everytime, i did a nasty ass burn out and let the pressure in my front tires to 15lbs. my car is all stock and it ran 15.7 at like 90 something MPH. funny enough that race i spanked an my friends 5spd ALTIMA and he had a Zex Nitrous kit on the car. my celica rips like its brand new and its got mad miles on it.

Actually Honda makes a very good engine....they are excellent at making very efficient yet potent engines that come to life at high RPM's and that last forever like Toyotas. I dont neccesarily like Hondas very much, but theres no doubting that they know a thing or two about making great engines. (H22, B18, B16, motorcycles, etc.)

The new K series make really good power and you said so yourself by stating your friends RSX Type S can run 14's. wink.gif

yes... this thread is off track...

Anyways... no... 17's is what I'd expect from an auto GT. The gearing on the auto tranny is not the best for acceleration... so it doesn't get better than that in stockish trim.

i dont want to know what my car would run at the track. in my area, a stealth r/t would be lucky to break into the 14s. stock mustang gts were into the mid to high 16s last year. my car would probly end up around the 19 second mark.
oh and a third gen rx7 last week ran a high 14. damn i live in a good area

Kwanza does have probably the best non-swap/spray timeslip on the site. I'd assume that he's gotten better than that too, seeing as that slip has a 1.259 R/T.. mucho room for improvement. So it's safe to say he's in the 15's.

Umm, I though kwanza was the 13 second one...

And some manual STs will beat automatic GTs.

Brain, yea it does.
not sure how big of a difference in 6th gens, so i have to go to my 7th gen knowledge.
a 7th gen GT-S manual runs mid 15sec, and auto is supposedly low 17s

not sure if that helps?

btw, nice reaction time Kwanza tongue.gif you musta been mesmorized by the tree tongue.gif
at least you didn't "leave one hangin"
