If your gunning your engine a lot, yes. I believe you really 'hear' the intake working at above 3,000 rpms, so if you punch your automatic a lot, say, up to around 4 or 5 you are going to hear it working. As if it increases HP, who knows.

NO, I don't have one, but I'm getting one soon.

Well I have a injen intake on an auto and it gives you better throttle response and a nice sound. Even if there was no performance I would have it or the sound LOL but I would get a cold air casue short ram sucks in the summer!

short rams are usually only a 1/1.5 ft piping leading from the intake manifold to the filter element so it tends to suck in stagnant hot air around the engine. while it may give you more "flow" due to the size of the tubing and reduced restriction, in effect you are not gaining anything because the stock intake is actually a cold air box already.

my recommendation buy a CAI or a K&N replacement filter for your stock intake box. don't waste your money on a short ram.

Well I would use the short ram in the winter liek I do and I got a add on for mine in teh summer. In the summer the short ram is worse than the stock air box, cause its so hot under the hood and its sucking in HOT air. So I got my cold air ran all the way to the front opeing on the bumber so I get massive cold air. You wont be able to tell inside the car much differeence but you would at the track.

I ran a 11.1 in the 1/8th with short ram
And a 10.68 with cold air!

Short intakePros;
Less water seapage into moter than cold air.
Smaller lag time.
Easier to install.
Cheaper

Cons;
Uses more hot air than cold air intakes.
Not as big of hp gains.
Not as cool looking as a cold air intake.

Cold air intake Pros;
Higher hp gains.
Cooler looking under hood.

Cons;
Hard to install.
REALLY dangous to engine with out a bypass filter.
Tendency to create too many LEAN conditions for motor, also dangous.

The best set up you could achive would be to purchause a short intake and build a cold air box for the intake... what you do is funnel cold air from the front of the car into box the houses the intake filter. Also install an bypass filter to detect water... AEM sell a really good one for $200-300.

Alot of people will use plexiglass for the air box that way you can still see the filter.. It would also be a good idea to drill a hole at the bottom of the box so any trapped water will be able to drain.

As for hp gains by the Injen short air intake..... Injen claims 15.7hp gain on the manul gt not sure what the gain is on the auto.... would belive that it would be comperable to this though..... Remember an automatic that is geared right is faster than a manul in a quarter mile.

Woud the Injen short ram with the heat shield be better? Does the heat shield help a lot?

The heat shields work but are mostly for looks... they are WAY to over priced also.

You can make one out of alumminum or titaium if you can find it...Titaium is very hard to bend though.

Just buy a sheet of 1'x1' Alumminum and take a few mesurements. draw out a patteren for the heat sheild... keep in mind that you will need to bend the metal to mount it onto the fiter. then cut and bend... a good polish would go a long way.. you will want the shield to be about a inch away from the filter and curve around it 2/3 of the way
