Well maybe my alternator isn't dead after all. Here's some horrible pictures I took of what could be an alternative to the dead alternator. Check it out. It's near the alternator, some copper wire, looks like it was sliced right there by a belt. I'm on the left side of the engine bay right under the alternator. Remember, 5SFE.

Take a gander at the areas circled in red. They are what I'd like to call...the problem zones:

in the last shot look real close at the belt and circle for peices of copper wire puncturing the belt.

Anyone got any guesses? I'm clueless in the engine department so...yeah..help! My Celica is off-line until this gets straightened out. frown.gif

It's the belt right to the left of the alternator. If you're looking head on at the car, the area i'm talking about is just below the very left side of the valve cover RIGHT by the alternator. It looks like a protective black plastic covering over some copper wires.

well cutting wires is bad... they are there for a reason.

The belt is your serpentine belt. It runs all your pulleys, like your Alternator.

Are the wires cut through? If so, you probably shorted them out. Recover each one with electrical tape and do a good job. This will keep them from shorting. I'd then go to the shop and get a new cover for the wires and make sure its not gonna get in the way of the belt. Also, the copper in the belt isn't good either. Its possible its knocked off track and causes your pulleys not to function right.

Again, you should be able to test the output of the Alt with a shop computer. To get it to the shop, charge your battery overnight with a plug in charger and drive there with nothing on (no lights, cd player, A/C, etc.) and have them fix it.

Good luck wink.gif

Those wires are part of the engine harness... I wouldn't drive your car untill you get them fixed.
