I just went and blew some money on a K&N air pod. It's really made a noticable difference to the car (sound and minor hp), and was dead easy to install! I haven't bought any aluminium/stainless piping yet, so the only thing needed to do this is the 3" filter. (note that the stock air piping is 2.5"). Here are the pictures.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Easy Huh! (the only thing to remember is to insert the air flow meter back into the pipe). |

BTW, thats not an airflow meter. Its an intake temperature sensor. The ST doesn't have an airflow meter, it is a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) type injection.

Thanks SpedToe! I actually didn't know what it was
![]() oH and its a ZR, not an ST. rlan --> It's an Australian car, and I think the japanese use the same naming format. |

The Argon - I got it at Rocca Brothers on South Road (can't remember the suburb) - near McDonalds, BP, and all that near the start of the hill -near the top of diagonal road!
Hehe hope you get all that. They had a whole bunch of K&N ones from about $80-$160, and i checked them all out really closely, and the only difference is the shape/style of the pod. This one is the best in my opinion, most of the others are supposedly designed for specific models - lots of fords/holdens. This one was a universal pod, and was $115 - I just checked and that converts to $65 US - altho probably more cos they need to be imported to the US. ![]() |

Thanks for the info...
Also if you are interested in getting the celica dragon badges (the blue ones) in this thread: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?act=ST...f=2&t=1569&st=0 Look up Sleeka Spares in the white pages, they are up at Pooraka near Parafield airstrip. They have these badges for sale new and second hand. I bought the last two new ones today, they cost me $45 ea ![]() ![]() They are about 75% of the size of the toyota badge so only people who knew what it was would know that it is a celica badge. Anyway, they probably have some of the badges on order now, so, give them a call. |

I might just give them a buzz argon! Do they have much other celica gear?
Ok after noticing how hot the air pod was getting, and it being a sunday - no shops are open, AND me being saving for an exhaust, I decided to make an el' cheapo style CAI for the pod. I have left the K&N filter where it was before, but I have grabbed some 8cm (3ish inches) aluminimum foil ducting that I had lying around, and run it from the intakes on the front plastic underbody, up to the air filter, I am also directing the air from the stock airbox intake (on the right hand side of the pictures) onto the filter. And I also used some cable ties to create a bed for the filter, so the air gets at it from all sides. Overkill? I think not - I took my lil bro for a thrash through the hills for about an hour and a half, and the pod was cool to the touch when I pulled over. after sitting there idling it warmed up again tho. Will get me through till I get some stainless piping! Hopefully this will encourage someone who looks at this to do this easy (and VERY cheap) mod! - although i'll be the first to admit it looks a bit shoddy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Who cares if it looks ghetto. If it gets colder air to your filter then go for it!

Hey Guys,
I don't know if you have Autobarn in Adelaide but they have can get you pre-formed stainless piping in 3 & 2.5 inch. I started with a one peice 3 inch elbow pipe which is pretty much the same angle as the factory plastic one except longer. That gets your filter to almost but up with the air vent for the original air box. You could use some of that ducting to send cold air straight into the mouth of your pod. Thats what I'm doing just now. All you need is the pipe a silicone coupling converter 2.5-3 inch and two good adjustable hose clamps, don't use that stock one that is on the trottle body, its great for the moudled original but didn't create a good seal on the coupling. Of course you need you filter aswell. I actually went with a Simota racing 3 inch Cone filter $49.95 and really no difference from the K&N for this use. All up it cost me $100. An yes noticed a big difference... Much smoother accel and of course it sounds like a freaking monster all of a sudden... Once it gets to like 2500 revs it starts screaming but at idle its as quiet as a mouse. Anyway guys Good Luck... If you like I will post some picks. And if you like I will be happy to source the bits for you if you guys have trouble locating the stuff you need in Adelaide. Stay safe ![]() |

Hi again,
Just for all of the guys in this site's mother country (USA) The ZR that gets mentioned is just a GT in right hand drive. Seems a bit stupid as we drive on the same side of the road and all, as the Japanese folk and all of Europe who of course all get JDM spec cars. Anyway we have only 5SFE engines and no 3SGE ![]() We also didn't get the 7AFE ![]() ![]() |

yel yeah we have autobarn. I am planning on using stainless and couplings like that -saw them in one of the how-tos here on 6gc, sounds like I have a source now thanks. And you're right about the sound - Really nice! Where did you find out it is the GT? I was under the impression they were the JDM cars - doh!
![]() Out of curiousity, what kind of celica do you have, and what did it come with/without? - I just looked at your profile. Nice car! ![]() This post has been edited by kamixZR: Mar 16, 2003 - 9:51 PM |

You're not completely right...in Europe we've Celica ST with 7AFE engine, front and rear discs 118HP. Also, the europen GT model is with 3SGE and not 5SFE Hope this helps!! ![]() ![]() |

Hi,
Yeah, I've got a 1994 ST204 ZR... It has a stock 5SFE engine and came with a dealer installed AUS ZR sports option pack. That is basically pedders sports ryder shocks and dropped a smidge. It also came with slotted rotors on the front only. This was a dealer option available through some of the big toyota dealers and only available on the yellow from what I was told. Could be a load of BS for all I know but it definately has all those bits and came with a certificate from the dealer stating that they were dealer fitted and warranted. No ABS, NO sunroof, everything else. I'be had yokohamas on it from zip, never tried another tyre and it hangs on like nothing else I've ever driven in FWD. Sorry I couldn't help you with the part numbers or product brands for the intake stuff but Autobarn are pretty good from my experience, my local store is fantastic with the help and doing home work for you in sourcing stuff. See ya. |
