RIP OFF INSTALL (springs), raped on install price. Options

Today I went to Firestone and Kragen for pricing on install for the Eibach Sportlines and just about lost it. I started yelling at the first guy cause i couldn't believe it so they brought in the manager.
Firestone - $410 (buncha bulllllllllshiat)
Kragen - $400

Anyone else get this high for install on some springs?
I kno they gotta take off the strut but the guy said it takes them an hour and a half for front and then the same for the backs..I mean im no pro and i think i could do it better than that, all i need is the machine. But if anyone knows where i could get em installed for cheaper or if someone lives near san fran and want's to help im down to put em in. But these guys were just homo.

holy sweet mother, 400 buck is out of there mind...
my friend got quoted for his civic si from a lower and lifting place for 160 for coilover ...springs would have been cheap..and even that i thought it was alot
soo i changed them out for him...charged them 20 bucks plus a meal at burger kind haha

yeah i know it was really out there that they would charge 400 bucks, anyone know where i could get it done for cheaper, like a place that most towns have like pepboys does that kinda stuff right?

Hey if you want it done right and cheap, do it yourself. Just pull off the wheel take out the bottom and top bolts and change out the springs. There is a how too in the diy section of this site, that is what i would do.

You would be supprised about how easy it is, and i know most people don't try stuff themselves but it is really simple. I just helped my friend change his shocks and neither of us had any idea what we were doing, and we got it done in less than an hour. Just give it a try.

Ohh and by the way, i am not held responsible for any thing that might happen to your car, just in case Gotta save my a$$ ya know

I did my lowering springs and struts/shocks together, parts cost about $310, labor cost me $130 only, I got tein s tech, I dont think the sportslines should cost you more to install, unless they provide you with the camper kit, cuz I hear anyone that put Eibach stuff needs a camper kit, I maybe wrong, gotta see how the Eibach Pro-line's fitment on my friend's celi, it also cost him about the same($120 to put on), but he bought his own camper kit off tirerack...

i remember calling local places back in the day... i got the same type of quotes...300-400.

ended up getting a mechanic friend of mine to do it for me for 100$ with an alignment at his shop.

Its not hard at all to do it yourself. And your not going to need a camber kit. All you need besides the basic tools is a spring compressor, which you can rent (and you usually get all of your money back.) The only thing you should have to pay for is an alignment, which is a must.

dont go to huge-name places...try little places if there are any in Cali
i got mine put on for $125, but then i had to pay $50ish for a alignment.

you can do it yourself, but if you just have stock jack...or not time, find someone to do it for ya

Our shop does springs for roughly 15 dollars a side and coils for roughly 20... It's too easy to charge a sh!t load on...

yeah i think im either gonna try and do the fronts myself and then if i feel up to it do that backs. But if not ill try the little places. Cuz the big places just charge ape shiiiiiiat for prices.

just tackle it yourself. especially if your just doing the springs. take the old ones off, new ones go on exact same way. shouldnt take you long at all.

Hey Importceli,

Where in California do you live? If in So Cal, there are some places you can check out. Discount Tire Center in El Monte installed Tein S-Tech springs on my friends 2003 Corolla for $275 parts and labor. Gushi Auto in Whittier quoted me $200 for installation only (I know, a bit high). Keep trying other smaller shops -- I'm sure you'll find someone who will do it for less, unless you decide to tackle it yourself. Good luck.

yeh man that sounds great. i started goin to little shops and the guy was all yeah no worries dude i-bok springs i got you covered 150 bucks. I was a little worried but i went today and then when he went into the computer it spat out like 2.2 hours fron 2.8 back and 647.53 total my eyes fell out and i left.

you dont even need a spring compressor. it pops off and has enough pressure to fly maybe two feet. just face it away from you when you do it (obviously)

I called the Discount Tire store in El Monte, CA today. They quoted me $257 for Tein S-Techs or $280-something for Eibach Pro-Kit springs, installed. That's pretty good in my book. So if you live in So Cal, give them a call.

They are dumb...call them back and say...labor is around 70$/hr and if they said 1.5hrs for the front and 1.5hrs for the back you should be paying no more than 200$ for the install.

Go to Technic Auto Repair in San Bruno. Ask for Wayne, 650-589-3888. For labor he charged me less $150 to replace springs and shocks on my MR2. You just need to find a tire shop to do your alignment. Alignment will range from $50 to about 120.

Dude, for $400 they should include a 3-some with 2 bi-lesbo chicks and a VIP pass to your local Strip Club with everything paid for you and 2 of your friends....

I paid $100 for the installation and I got a car wash with it.

Im sure you got a friend somewhere that can take you to a cheaper place.

call a performance auto shop that specilizies in one area, like a performance shop that works only on suspensions for japanese imports, theres crap loads of them around virginia and they charge almost half of what normal shops would. Example national chain charge something lame like $1000 to swap out all four rotors, performance shop charges only $160

Yes you SHOULD use a spring compressor why would you take that chance?

Secondly, as far as I know its like $50 a spring to change.
