After hours and hours of slaving away on my computers, I think the site is ready to be released to the public, and that's why you're seeing it now. biggrin.gif

As you can probably tell, the forums look a bit different. They're upgraded to the new version of Invision Power Board, which brings lots of new features. Most notable is probably the multiple quote system...see that quote icon on the top right of this post? Click it and it selects this post to be quoted when you hit the reply button at the bottom. Select multiple posts and you get multiple quotes. smile.gif

Also new is a bunch of new features that you guys will discover. biggrin.gif

And the forum skin appears to be a bit buggy, but that's being worked out.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any problems, please do post and let me know...it's the only way they'll get fixed. biggrin.gif

To Do List
  • Re-incorporate the location and AIM screen-name advanced search fields into the members' rides advanced search form
  • Allow editing of pending how-to articles
  • Re-incorporate the AIM icon into posts made by users with an AIM screen-name
  • Re-incorporate Celica info('94 Celica ST, for example) under users' names
  • Fix lots of skin/visualization issues

2nd akimbo... cooms is 1st biggrin.gif

Like the new look coomer!!

one ? though... is there a way to add a little section to the left of our posts that we can add things like GT2/3sgte/5sfte etc.. like maybe between what kinda car it is and our location?

If not its no prob cuz we got a sig to do that stuff but might make it a little less jumbled with all the big sigs that could be reduced down

Newayz.. Looks GREAT and your hardwork diffently will/has paid off!

can't wait to figure out every feature

Location is already there...and I plan to put the car year, model, and body-style of peoples' cars back under their names. smile.gif

It's just a matter of me being able to figure out how this new code powering the forums works. tongue.gif

yea figured you would do that.. ment an extra section... also is there away to either sticky the GB's or have a seperate section/forum for them... cuz it kinda sucks to have to look around for them if no one has posted updates etc for a few days but its still goin on

It'd be too much work to sticky all of them, and I don't think there are enough to warrant their own section. wink.gif

Coomer,
Thanks so much for the time and effort that you put into this website. It truly is the best 6th gen Celica website and forum that there is. The upgrade looks great so far. Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments guys! biggrin.gif

It was actually fun doing all this work...I love seeing the finished result(although what you see now is far from finished. wink.gif) and I'm pretty happy with how everything came together today. At the end of last night I thought it'd never be done. wink.gif

And if you're wondering why I'm posting so much, I'm blaming the caffeine...I finished off seven cans of Pepsi since 2:00 PM (it's 11:00 PM now) today here at my office, so I'm bouncing off the walls. biggrin.gif

The new 'quote' option is only 50% effective IMO. Only way to use the multiple quoting system is to make a new reply (add reply button) instead of just adding it to the fast/quick reply box.

Aside from that it looks decent. I say 'decent' because, I am more of a vBulletin fan rather than IPB.

I could make it so that when the reply icon is clicked, it would automatically put the quoted text into the fast reply box. What do you guys think of that?

Great so far Chris

One thing though - Cant update profile. I saw that you had plans to incorporate AIM into the site and went to add my AIM name to my profile. Error is "must insert email address," though no area to insert it into. Just a heads up.

-Ti

Edit this one pal: Well I played some more. It seems you can edit your profile by going through the control panel, however you cannot edit if you go through the main page. Down on the bottom left, it says "view profile" "edit profile" etc. The "edit profile" doesn't work there, but again, does through the control panel.

Very nice, i like it alot.
Maybe lower the minimum characters in the search to 3 instead of 4?
i.e., twm, trd, hub...

I never knew how much time i actually spent here, im glad its back up!

Oh yes, that's also on the to-do list. I'll work on that in a few minutes if I can get my computer to work correctly. smile.gif

Unfortunately, because of the way the database indexes are created, three letter words don't work in the search, even if I lower the minimum word length to three. Rebuilding the indexes may be possible, but it would slow down the site I'd think. I'll look into it though.

I just noticed that it doesnt show how many VIEWS a thread has... I liked seeing how many people have viewed my threads, could we bring that back?

EDIT: Not too big, but I liked when I used to click on a member's name and it took me straight to their profile. Now it takes me to some other page, then theres another button that says view their profile. smile.gif

I plan to put the view back in. People seem to like that. wink.gif

If you click the profile icon, rather than the user's name, you go straight to their 6GC.net profile with the Celica info and such. I should replace the person on that icon with a wheel or something...

It's possible that it's cookie settings on the server-side. I'm going to mess with those soon and see if I can get all the bugs worked out.

The comments were removed because they were too hard to moderate, unlike the forums, where management is always at. I noticed a lot of mean and inappropriate comments, and people would sometimes have comment wars and I'd have to go in and remove stuff...just too much of a hassle.

And someone else mentioned the "mark this forum as read" link too...I'll have to add that back in at some point. smile.gif

Man do I love multi-quoting. It makes this so much easier! biggrin.gif

The thing I get confused about is that the newbs just sit at their comps and go through page after page after page of the forums... They must spend alot of time.

That's a good thing...that means they're researching, rather than just posting "Yo! I needz da Supra engine...how much and who will do it for me?"

people use the term newbs like they were born with the knowledge of how to build a car from scratch, everyone has to start off somewhere.
