Forkee brought up the idea of maybe having a 2005 6GC.net calendar, and I'm thinking of having one made with some awesome photos of peoples' cars from the site. smile.gif

I'd have to look into costs of getting them produced professionally here, but what do you guys think about it?

My housemate just put one together for 3si.org- he's using cafepress and it turns out to be about 17 dollars (I think) they're not that hard to make; max dpi is 300; it's just getting the high quality images.

It'd probably be best to hold a contest- submit images to someone that are high quality; and then have run offs; etc

i would buy one. it would be neat to have everyones pictures in it somehow. maybe a picture of everyones cars in a black and white shadow under the box for the day? iv seen calenders that the area where someone would write in stuff for the day they have had designs in black and white. this is just a thought. the picture would be light enough to write over but just enough to see the picture.

this would also be a great fundraiser for the site... maybe if each calender cost 17 dollars to make, charge 20 each plus s&h. then the extra money goes to the site.

I'm guessing if you did the car on each date thing it would be more than $17, but I like the calendar idea... I'd be down.

Well, I'd want to ship calendars by the 15th of December at the latest. And I think a car for each of the 365 days would be waaaaaay too much work. I was thinking of one high-quality, scenic, magazine-quality photo of a different sixth. gen. for each month of the year. wink.gif

In no particular order, Tufy, Frotou, Romas, Pete...there are tons more cars that could potentially be in it. Basically, really good photos of really hot sixth gens. biggrin.gif

we could use the 10 featured rides + 2 more

what would be REALLY cool is if we were able to keep ontop of the featured ride thing and the following year, feature those rides in the next calandar.

I'm be interested in it. But the problem with that is every's taste differs. For example, our current cover car makes me throw up in my mouth. And that's what most people enjoy. Now something more along the line of mike dotson's car would be best

I'm going to go against the grain here and say the featured rides should not automatically be in the calandar- they've already been featured after all- but what we need are EXTREMELY high res photos; and some of those members aren't really around anymore.

We need them to be
1) Hi res (higher than the hi res upload option on this site- STRAIGHT from the camera so Coom, me, or someone proficient can color correct these things)
2) Scenic
3) Of a variety of years; bodel styles, and colors.

Whats wrong with using the featured rides?

Frotou's: Has two scenic picts; and his paint doesn't really photograph well. That, and you'd have to consider a construction site with uprooted trees scenic- It's also just a celica without any of the electronic or engine stuff shown (which should not be on a calandar) and that was primarily the reason this car was picked (I think)

Tufy's: There's nop reason why this car shouldn't be featured; it's a GT4 (which the entire calandar SHOULD NOT BE) but it looks beautiful; also he's taken a TON of scenic photos with it

Turbotone: Obviously could be featured as well; it's also a GT4 (we don't want every picture to be) but it's a different color, diff bodykit; we just need to get hi res picts from him that are scenic (and not taken next to rotting boats)

Everyone agree that we should try and keep models off the cars for this calandar? Lets have it just be cars.

Bkolher: not my style; but it does look good. However, the pictures taken here just aren't scenic enough to make a final cut imho. The car looks good; but it needs to be in a good PLACE.

Soundslut: Beautiful car; needs more scenic photos not taken in a street; which could be a problem; since the car is no longer in this shape? Also, it's an ST (which is good for variety)

ka2: Not very scenic at all - it's an SSIII tho, so variety!

DG: no scenic pictures at all. Well, one in front of his house on crab grass smile.gif DG, grab a camera and get clicking

ST205: Great, ANOTHER GT4? smile.gif He's in HK; there should be a ton of scenic spots, but we don't have much to choose from here.

Doggy: ... uhh yeah. no problems here

AUM CELICA: No scenic picts hi res picts- and since he's not active anymore at all.. good luck getting them

mikedodson: Some scenic picts; but they're all cropped- is he active? can we get hi res?

The point is; very few of these are car calandar pictures. All of the cars are excellent; but they have yet to be photographed in the best spots (some of them excluded)

My point? Don't get hung up on the featured rides suggestion; We'd probably get a better calandar is we opened it up to submissions of the best high quality picts a person can take; you'd be surprised how good a 94 ST can look when photographed in the mountains with a view;

get my drift?

im with shid on not just using the "featured rides", but if i were to purchase one of these i would kind of like to know which cars are going to be used. Lets say we voted and the top 12 go into the calendar, i would just like to know what the top 12 are before i place an order so that i wont be disapointed with the quality of cars used.

Slow the only problem is when you buy a swimsuit calander or a playboy for that matter there are always 1 or 2 chicks that you dont think are hot. So we really cant complain on this one.

I would buy into a calendar for sure.I do think that there should be some kind of model at least on the cover but not in every picture. The cars are too dang hot to cover up with a hot model.....wait let me think about that one....hmmm...tough decision. Anyways I would buy at least one or two maybe.

I don't know.. I talked to Coomer about offering to organize; but he said he thought doggy was working on it; getting hi quality picts of nice celicas together already.

The only thing is is that I don't think Doggy was planning for submissions, nor do I know if he's still working on it..

I'd rather do it the submission way.. but oh well :/

well guys, i talked with Coomer before like 2 or 3 weeks, i offered him to make 6gc calendar... After that i started collecting photos.. made few of them to look quit good.. but that's it. Basicly, i dont want to grab someones idea or nothing, if Coomer desides to make it, i wont stand against this.

Now only thing is needed, a one single word from Coomer, if he says that he thinks that i need to conitune on calendar i will continue, if not, its not a problem for me.. Basicly what i offered, is to make the pics for calendar, and send the JPG or TIFF formats in CD to someone who got some connections in US to print the calendar there.

Well, let me know guys what you thing, let me know Coomer what you think. And i think we will make some suggestions anyway smile.gif

Posted this elsewhere, but Point Loma in San Diego is a lot like Mt. Tamalpias in Marin where a lot of car commercials are shot.

If there is some photography I have an N80 and lots of slide film. Also an FE for IR shots if those appeal.

Also, the solution to the hot babes conundrum... have 11 months of just cars and one month of 12 scantily clad womenfolk gang banging a Celica.

I'd pay 15 for a calendar.

Coomer, I know you're buried in physics, but why not set it up so we can vote on the calendar photos? A quick php database with thumbnails and vote counters that everyone can submit a few shots to.

I have a feeling most of the votes will go to our fearless leader's photos, but we'd have good representation of people/areas/cars from everywhere.

The nominees send the printer a cd/dvd with good, quality non-jpegs for printing.

Oh and the calendar should have a 13th month, Smarch.

I think Doggy is collecting photos from choice cars, I dont think they're holding a public submission/runoff.. which kinda sucks, cus I'd really want to do that.

and dude, email is good enough for sending the high quality picts- almost every digi cam takes them in jpeg anyway.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer the sharpness, color fidelity, and characteristic curve of film. Digital SLRs are acceptable. Point and shoot digitals recording JPEGS? Come on!

No, I agree with you. I love my non digital SLR camera- and I'm dying for a digital SLR right now.

But 90% of the picts submitted would be from consumer level cameras

Any image should be fine as long as its 300 dpi at the calendar size plus bleed. If the calendar is going to be 11x17 with a top half image in an 8.5x11 area it would need to be 3300x2550 plus some if you wanted it to bleed over the edge. You can also have them made inexpensively at cafepress.com, people could order them independently of the 6GC site and the profit would go directly to the shop administrator. Let me know if you guys need any prepress help.

The only thing I would caution is scanning in an image that was previously printed, a photo is fine, but if it was a printed image the scanner pattern and the printer pattern will cause a moire effect on the image, like if you put two window screens together and rotated the front one.

Dude man, you're way behind on the times.

Submissions for the calendar are already over, and voting has begun
