I was at Hooters all night, and every time they showed that clip we had our whole party of 15 yelling and the whole rest of the restaurant was getting pumped too. They musta repeated it like 5 times while we were there. Wow it was quite a fight.

happened literally 5 minutes from my house, i live right down the street from the palace haha some crazy crazy stuff... i loved the breakdown sportscenter did with all the arrows and pausing it and pointing out who gets clocked and when lol it was hilarious... it sux theyre probably going to have to get rid of courtside seating and put some sort of barrier between the court and the field after this season. i cant wait till christmas day, detroit plays indy in indy smile.gif

This was the sickest thing I have ever seen in my life. I've been a long time die hard NBA fan and I've never seen anything like it. It is disgusting and right now I am stunned. To see people cheering for the brawl to continue and for fans to keep instigating stuff with the fans really disgusts me.

mob mentality... one guy started the whole thing. i personally feel artest is a professional and shouldnt have reacted as he did. but then again, he was assulted and legally had the right to defend himself... those fans were HELLA surprised when they saw him jump off the table lol

boosted_K2,

I feel the same way man. Artest is a professional but the beer being thrown at him was uncalled for. I put a lot of the blame on the security at the arena. The fan that threw the beer at Artest should be charged with instigating a riot and banned from all NBA games. Knowing Artest's rep as being the bad boy of the league, I'm going to have to side with him on this one. I think that Stephen Jackson should be suspended for the rest of the season. He and Jermaine O'Neal are going to be having big lawsuits coming their way. I can understand that they were sticking up for their teammate but they need to realize that even in the heat of the moment, they are professionals.

no ammount of police and security can control an arena of 40,000 + people. they did the best they could at controling it but if that many people want to get into it, nothing short of the armed national guard could prevent it.

not to mention how completely unnecessary it was for artest to just lay down on the scorers table.

But the thing is, it started in one particular section in the arena. When punches were being thrown in that section by Artest and Jackson, I did not see one law enforcement officer in sight. The usage of mase would have been ugly, but it would have prevented this entire debacle. The fans of Detriot are classless and this is a very sad day in the NBA world. The NBA now needs to look at reevaluating the way fan seats and benches are set up as well as having additional security on hand to prevent this from ever happening again.

lol it just goes to show alcohol at sporting events is a bad idea. and you can say the same thing about fans in numerous other cities where things like this have happened, this isnt the first and wont be the last time fans and players have gotten into fights. The palace of auburn hills has the best atmosphere of any sporting arena ive ever been to, and ive been to alot. the same thing could have happened at any city where theres a very emotional drawn out rivalry.

Can't disagree with you there. In the heat of the moment, anything can happen. Add alcohol to the mix and that just makes it worse. Just because fans buy tickets which pays for the player's salaries, that gives them no right to abuse a fellow human being. The NBA should take steps in making different fanzone sections. It has worked here at the University of Hawaii where brawls between opposing teams and fans are not unusual. They put fans that choose to drink in a separate section so that mom and dad and the family dont have to hear the profane things shouted. Also, beer sales are stopped at half time. These things will always happen but there are always measures that can be put in place to prevent such an ugly thing like this. What ever happen to the decency of human beings?

that is a very interesting and intelligent way to deal with alcohol at sporting events.

im not saying that they can or should assult players. ive always felt that just because they are atheletes in sporting events it shouldnt suspend regular laws. ive always felt that some of the stuff that goes on at sporting events between opponents and other people is not punished severly enough, just because they are at a game doesnt mean they have the right to assult eachother outside the rules of the game. i think there should have been arrests at the event tonight and definatly more than one person should be spending the night in jail.

I totally agree with you 100%.

Heres my little vent, gotta get it out.

Regardless if they're a fan or a player, arrests should have been made. I don't understand why sporting events have different rules. If any of this chaos would have happened in an office or in a local bar, people would be arrested. Same with the heckling and jeers. I hear a lot of sick things being yelled at players ie. racism, comments about their family, threats. Yet people say it's a part of the atmosphere. Paying $30 for a measly ticket apparently makes it ok to get piss drunk and yell obsenities at players who are just doing their jobs.

i saw the footage of this today with my dad... Messed up to say the least... the way i look at it is this- The person who threw the beer was totally out of line, no doubt. but with that said- the player who ran up into the seating and started swinging was acting out of complete IGNORANCE AND UNPROFESSONALISM! Was throwing the beer right? NO. having a plastic cup of beer thrown at you from 6 rows up is NOT threatening your saftey. Attacking the fan was NOT self defense. Insulting in the extreme yes, but not justifiable to go apesh*t in the crowd when you are supposed to be a professional and are in the public eye. The players involved in the crowd fiasco will be sued no doubt, and in my opinion, deserve it. they also better not get just a slap on the wrist from the NBA. If you cannot understand in a situation like that you cannot attack the fans you dont have the brains to be a proffessional in ANY sport.

i agree 100% with you saleeka i see all these polls on ESPN and on the internet asking whos to blame for it all, i believe the one on ESPN ended up being 50% believe the detroit fans were at fault, 34% believed ron artest was to blame, and like 8% thought it was ben wallace.

in my opinion it was like 80% THAT fan, the one single solitary fans fault, 15% artests fault. and the final 5% was a culmination of ben wallace, the NBAs lax policy on security and seating arrangements, the concessions not having a sales limit on alcohol at athletic events, and the referees letting the game get out of hand early on.

if you watched the game itself you can see the refs letting wayy too much go.

that whole thing was nuts...sorry to say, i laughed at some points, but was disappointed mostly.

-Stephen Jackson is freakin nuts...dude is straight ghetto. He came in outta nowhere and clocked that guy in the stands. He probably should get the steepest punishment.

-Ben Wallace is a punk for overreacting like that...the foul wasn't even that bad.

-Jermaine O'Neal with the sliding M.Bison punch...haha...

-Like Tim Legler said on espn.com, if a fan is on the actual court, he's looking for trouble, and that's his fault when he gets it.

-The Detroit fans were totally out of line...mob mentality like others said.

-Poor Scot Pollard in his nice suit got drenched leading J. O'Neal back to the locker room.

I've never seen anything like this, and it's surprising that it was the NBA. Like people have said before, buying a ticket to a game doesn't give you an excuse to be a jackass.

I'd say Jackson gets fined and 15 games, Artest gets the same (even though he shouldn't...but he has a bad rep), O'Neal gets fined and 8-10, Wallace gets fined and 5.

Artest and Wallace were both acting a little immaturely, letting their frustrations get the better of them. There's no question that Wallace overreacted, but what was the point of Artest commiting that flagrant foul? In the replay it clearly shows that he pushed the back of Wallace's head when Wallace was going up for the bucket. There's 42 seconds left, just let it go, there's no reason for that foul. As Big Ben said, "There aint no 15 point shot". That foul was Artest being Artest showing his immaturity and lack of self control that the league has witnessed in his time playing in the NBA. If there's one thing positive that came out of this brawl it is... THE BAD BOYS ARE BACK IN DETROIT! tongue.gif

i think the NBA did a good job thus far in handing out punishments

Wallace got 6 games (and probably will get a fine later on) for the push to artests face, which is pretty basic for that type of over reaction.

artest is out for the season, probably will get a fine, and will deal with the legal bull**** that is the detroit DA's office.

jackson got 30 games, plus dealing with the Detroit legal branch, he'll probably have some civil cases brought against him more than anything criminal.

oneal got 25 games, probably a fine later on, and will probably get hit pretty big financially by that one guy he decked in the face.

and im sure a handful or 2 of the fans will get some criminal and civil charges brought up against them, not to mention loosing whatever season or partial season tickets they were holding.

i think so far the NBA has done a good job of not blowing it out of proportion, but dealing with it appropriately.

im just looking forward to next season when artest gets back and they play detroit again smile.gif

I really hope the fans involved get severe punishments as well, like being banned from NBA games for 5 years to life. They need to be held accountable just as much as the players were.

Not that one fan, its been proven that he didn't do anything. In fact, this video shows who was the one. I'm talking about him (dude in the white hat), the guys on the court, and anyone shown to be throwing crap onto the court.

BTW, does anyone know how Anthony Johnson got 5 games? I swear I didn't see him at all in any video clip.

The players getting one game suspensions...for peace keeping???? BS

It's been said in other forums, since the Pacers players got hosed, why not fine the Piston fans by having the next 5 Piston home games be played in an empty arena? A little extreme, i know, but since the Commish is on this "send a message, make an example" power trip, why not?

IMO, Artest got screwed, based on his rep. I mean, Sprewell got the season for choking his coach unprovoked. That should mean something. Jackson got what he deserved. O'Neal...I think he got a bit too much...15-20 would of been my call. Wallace...lucked out, deserved 8-10.

the one game suspensions were NOT for entering the stands or "peace keeping" the one game suspensions were for people leaving the bench during the original confrontation between wallace and artest. it had nothing to do with the crowd brawl.

Good. The dude that threw the beer at Artest had it coming. Fans come to sporting events thinking that they're all invincible and think they can get away from anything. I'm glad that Artest punched the a** with the glasses. He was talkin sh*t the entire time at Artest and his eyeballs nearly popped out of his sockets when he saw Artest charging at him...BUT i think Artest was also WAY outta control and deserves to be suspended for the rest of the season. Fans like that deserve that. TOTALLY uncalled for on both sides.

well what I meant, was that unless they tried to escalate the original players melee in the first place, then why should they be suspended also? I know how the rules are, like in hockey i know that if you leave the bench onto the ice during a fight its auto 10 games, but i'm pretty sure old injured Reggie Miller wasn't comin in to throw some bows around, yknow? It wouldn't be fair to the game to force well intentioned players to stand idly by while a brawl goes on 20 feet in front of them.

I thought that the news said that the man Artest attackd was proven from the film they had to not have done anything- the guy who threw the beer took off after he threw it... Artest was punching him and yelling "you do it man?" or somthing like that... He definetly deserved the whole season suspention, at the least...

Man I was listening to the radio this morning on my way into work and they had the interview with Matt Lauer (sp?) on the Today Show interviewing Artest.

I'm sorry, but the guy is a complete moron. Either that or the camera and lights were getting to him. He couldn't even complete his sentences or make one rather. He kept avoiding all the questions that he asked him and he kept plugging in his CD! lol

His last line went something like this, "I know Ben Wallace lost a loved one, matter fact I lost a loved one too.....but um yeah buy my CD, ya'll have a great day". Not the quote exactly but it's basically what he said.

Did anyone else hear/see it?

Oh update, the cops have footage of the man that supposedly hurled that chair into the air. They now have a pic of the guy, and are looking to find him and question him.

Mike, i dont think you'll be taking on a 6'1"+ pro athleet anytime soon wink.gif

how about i saw an interview w/ the guy w/ the white hat saying he did nothing and such...psh

here's a tip for him:
When a player feels threatened enough to attack a fan, don't come up to him on HIS playing court wearing the opposing team's jersey.

damn idiot
