System complete Options

Ok so I finally bought my system, everythings installed (I should have pictures in by sunday). So here's everything:

Head unit: Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X579
Speakers: Pair of 6" Infinity reference component speakers
Amp: 600 watt Rockford Fosgate Amp
Subs: 1 10" Kicker Comp CVR in a bandpass enclosure

My question is, with this setup does anyone think I could compete very successfully in car audio comps?

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you could compete very well with this setup; but I dont compete with mine so I really can't say anything- it all depends on what else is around in your town.

Not sure how it works around there but whenever we have car audio competitions here it's based on the total wattage of your system more than just who has the biggest and baddest. If that's the case you could always try your hand at it.

eh, you wont be winning any comps with that setup. especially in a bandpass box, the bass will sound horrible. whats the RMS on that amp? if it is 600rms, then get another CompVR, and put them in a sealed box. it wont be too loud but it will be a little louder, and alot cleaner. with that setup you have now, id only say you would get in the mid 120's or low 130db's with that.

dude, even pieces of **** can play 20hz-20khz (subs for lows and components or coaxials for highs). that doesnt make it good. what makes it good is the sound quality. i hate it when people try to say their systems are so good when they can play this frequency or get this loud. the point of a good system is to have it sound good.

good for what? db has nothing to do with sound quality which is what a sound system is for. btw, you didnt hit 175db. this guy had 5 -9900 DD 15" powered by 20 amps with over 20,000 watts rms total and only hit 175.9db.

yup, 175db is loud, but there no way in hell youve hit it. his setup was purely for loudness and guaranteed it sounded like ****.

This is silly. You guys arguing with Andason obviously take him way too seriously....lighten up, he was just joking to begin with.

However, about sound competitions and what-not....I have some friends really into car audio who have been to a few dB Drags around my area. One of their systems include dual 15" JL subs around 700 watts each, and thats sick in my opinion. But his setup is considered middle-of-the-line at these events, so it takes alot to compete.

I think that unless you plan to compete, anything over 1000 watts RMS is nausiating. It just hits so hard its uncomfortable to sit in the car....so I prefer a clean setup like you described with the 10" Kicker and some good clean components.

I could not agree more. Is about the sound quality. I had 14 speakers on my 5gen Celica and competed on the 250watts. I won several times. I tuned my system with my RTA (Audio Control). The sound was extremely nice.

back to original question... Freddy, with that set up and 600 watts amplifier you wont get too far. Just enjoy your music and dont give away your money on competition.

Sorry about the lack of response.. been busy at work and school..

Anyways the amp is 600 peak. I built a 1 cbft (interior) sealed enclosure and it didnt hit nearly as deep as the bandpass did, so i'll probably go back to the bandpass.

I doubt i'd have any interest in SPL Competitions unless I score a dirt cheap minivan or something large enough to fit some decent larger speakers into. But from what I've heard the Colorado competition scene isnt too terribly challenging so who knows.

But here's a thought I had about SPL... A School bus with walls (Both left and right sides) lined with 18" Kicker L7's (Maybe 10 or so on each side) with zapco 9.0 amps lining the roof..

the bandpas box is louder because that is what they do. but they are very sloppy.. and i would never use one, try building a ported box. and that school bus with L7's wont get very far L7's arent made for SPL comps, try a Solo X

As far as my wife goes, she's my bestfriend, we always talk **** to eachother (She was sitting next to me as I was typing that one and got a jab to ribs out of it). I might upgrade my bottom end though if a new potential higher paying job comes along. I was thinking 2 10" Alpine R's in a vented enclosure (A friend of mine had a similiar setup but with 12's instead and it was crazy as hell.. pandimonium 2004!) with a 1000 watt kenwood amp. Interviews tomorrow so hopefully... And does anyone know of an effective way to keep the ceiling mount-rear view mirror from slowly moving out of place while crankin?

Wow, you guys have some serious issues. I went with the bandpass enclosure because it was lower, not louder. The sealed enclosure I had before was definately louder but didnt suit my tastes (hip-hop primarily). Prior to this system I had 2 12" MTX thunder 6000's, sealed 1.5 cbft enclosure powered by a 1000 watt kenwood amp. I could shake the hell out of my house when parked outside but as far as actual pleasant harmony goes it was awful. But anywho, the way I was taught was that music should be reproduced like it was in the studio it was made in. With that in mind the actual life-like sound my system produces sounds extremely clear and very pleasing to the ear (and wont cause anyone to go def). Thats why I was wondering if competition would of been a worth while endeavour. But if sq is only graded on sheer bass alone then I think I'll just stick with keeping it to myself lol.

SQ is Sound Qaulity, which would be a mixture of bass and mids and highs, which isnt common anymore :-\. SQL is Sound Quality Level, which is SQ with more bass, and SPL which is Sound Pressure Level, and it is just pure bass and not much else.
