Hey Yall....

Has this ever happend to you?

Okay, this morning I slept in like an hour before I go to school.... I was like "CRAP!" and got ready for school as fast as I could. Once I was all done getting ready for school, I grab my stuff, grab my keys, and run out the door to my celica.

It was a very cold morning, frost everywhere! Thick frost, might I add. I go to the trunck, stick the key in to unlock it and I litteally had to pry open the trunck cuz it frosted over. I throw my stuff in, shut it, then go to get in the car. I stick the key in the door.... Ha! it wouldn't even budge! I couldn't even stick the key in i was so frozen!

So here I am with a car completely frozen over, and running late for school. LOL I run to the trunk, grab my stuff and had to walk. Luckily... I live within a block of my school... Im just a lazy ass and drive everyday, when I could just walk 50 feet to the school.

I knew I shoulda put my celica out the cold and into the carport.... rolleyes.gif Oh well

But yeah, what do you do if your car is frozen over like that? LOL this is my 1st car so I dont really know rolleyes.gif

Do ya just throw on hot water?

Don't throw hot water on it...especially windows...it'll make them crack. But metal gets fatigued when it goes from very cold to hot pretty quickly, and that's not good.

It has happended to me once. I just kept moving it back and forth on m passenger side door and I eventualy got it. They sell lock de-icer at hardware stores, that should do the trick.

I went outside last night to get in my car and it was practically a blizzard and it was about 10 degrees out here (I work close to the mountains) I stuck my key in my car, turned it, pulled it out and tried to open it....the door wouldn't budge while I was pulling up on the handle. I went to the passenger side and tried the same thing and thank god it opened. I climbed in and lifted myself over the center console and started the car and tried to get out again....my car wouldn't let me out of either door! I was like oh shiz that sucks!!! So I warm it up a bit and turn on the heater and after a while just sitting there my doors warm up and finally open.

So yeah I have sort of been there. Anybody know what could of caused this? I think the inside of the door somehow got wet and the locking mechanism got stuck or the door latch wouldn't disengage. I don't know....I don't mean to thread hijack but I need to know just so this doesn't happen again.

The thought just hit me, if he uses remote start to turn on the car to not be late, how will he drive his already turned on car when the door keyholes are iced over?! lol tongue.gif

lol

well as long as he keeps the heater on full blast and starts the car 30 mins before he has to leave he should be fine. But other than that I don't see how it would work either.

when there use to be ice all over my car before school and i was late, sometimes the keyhole in the door would be frozen shut. So i would take some water slowy pour it over the keyhole and then quickly get my key in before that water froze too. It sucked later on bc that water would freeze in there as well. But when you are late, you go with the fast and temp solution.

I also learned to drive with my backpack in my lap or under my legs in the foot well. This way i could save time from needing to grab it from the back seat or the trunk when i was really late!

I have had that in the past but now with my door popers i just push the button and the 45lb poper bustes though any amout of frost, it was like that this morning, trunk was frozen shut and very hard to get open, but the door just popped on command.

PS: I have had to climb though the trunk to get in, when my old poppers where in, ebay kits suck.

I just take a lighter, heat up the key, then work my way in.. Pull the door hard as I can. Otherwise, I open the hatch.. Heh. But isn't it weird, stuff like that happens when you're late or you need to get somewhere quick?
