We were all newbies once...I think everyone should go back to their very first posts and show that they made stupid mistakes at some point too...There really is a lot of hate towards newbies that is really undeserved. Not everyone knows that there is a search function, or that this stuff has been discussed before. So I'll get us started (even though I haven't been here very long).
QUOTE I've seriously been looking into saving up for one of these engines, but in addition to the enormous price (all of which I would have to pay for off $8.50 an hour for now), I don't know if it's going to pass smog in California, because we got it pretty strict here. Anyone around here who has one know? I don't wanna be an idiot and invest all this money into an engine that I won't even be able to run legally; it would be a pain to have to add on to the cost of the swap, just to get it to pass smog. oh man such a newb move |

QUOTE(fastgt @ Jan 18, 2004 - 9:37 PM) I've been really thinking about doing something major to my celica but I'm not sure what to do. Given that everything turns out the way I planned i can get the 3s swap for 4-5k. Now I was also thinking about rebuilding the 5s with new internal and strapping a turbo to it which sounds cheaper, but I need to know if it is really cheaper Also I heard that the 3s head can be swapped to the 5s block, can a 3s head from (just an example) a junked mr2 with a 3s be put on my motor I've done alot of my research so I know the details of both sides but I wanna know the opinions of you guys for internals and how your projects turned out for the 5sfte and 3sgte I'm sure questions like this have been asked before but I need all the help I can get before I start spending the money I have saved up and i still havent finished the 5sfte This post has been edited by fastgt: Dec 29, 2004 - 3:55 AM -------------------- 2011 Spice Orange Mini Cooper

QUOTE Dang. I love that! stripped to perfection . I might just half to take my stock GT wing off. that back end is great withough it i never would have guessed. it dose look like the supra, thats nice. look at the second pic, cover the frunt bumper with your hand, and is it me or dose that have a ferrari kinda look to it. If that kit is for sale (maid to fit 94 celica) then I want it. oh, and yeah that van got owed. Jan 10th, 2004 (my first day on the post) (13 days will mark my 1 year membership) eh, its not as bad as I though it would be, dont know about the "ferrari" thing but whatever. I went though a lot of my first post's but non of them seemed that bad, I think I was too shy to say much more then a line or two. I did take my stock wing off too. I was talking about this celica I think. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/cre...ice_celica3.bmp (wont let me post it so just click to see, its the silver celica with a custom kit etc. still pretty nice in my eyes. -------------------- ![]() |

QUOTE Hello everyone. I own a 97 celica st and i'm thinking about turbo or supercharging. I'm tired of turning my head and pretending not to hearing some guy in a prizm rev-me-up and try to run me at the light. All my friends think its fast because of the way it looks. I just need a little more power maybe 50 or so more horse. I'm not expecting much, I know I wont stand a chance against a Engine swaped celica with a 3SGE. ( my main concern) Will the celica still pass smog with force induction? And where can i find a supercharger? I need something with very little mantainence and doesn't kill my engine. Another thing that worries me, is that my celica is an Automatic, how will that work under boost (will it hold up)? i wont need to let off the gas to shift gears so do i need a b.o.v? Is it okay to run the s/c turbo with everything else stock? ( i know i need to upgrade my injectors ECU Fuel pump ect. but i need to slowly upgrade) I'm a noob with all this performance stuff, but i have worked on cars b4 like replacing an engine. Thanx alot guys. sorry 4 the long post i'm such a noob!! and i still am.. |

Im a US Marine on leave at the time im posting this. 2 days ago my hometown was flooded and my car got caught in the flood i tried to get it out and flooded my car out. Damage include a bent rod, cylinder wall damage, and the bottom of the piston slammed into the crank. Now the damage by my calculation is more to repair that engine then do a 3sgte engine swap. QUOTE(Kwanza) Interesting numbers... Curious how with those simple mods...minus the 65 shot you can push over 110 hp at the wheels... meaning you're getting better than 140-150 at the crank... that's 30-40 hp over stock. Geez... from a 7A!? On my old 94 ST, I ran low 15's and can hit high 14's back when I was shooting a 75 shot... but my other engine mods were more extreme. Port Polish head (valves, seats, retainers, everything), CAI, 2.25 exhaust w/ free-flow cat, ASP underdrive pulley, modified hp headers, and SAFC. Running all motor... I only managed high 15's...even low 16's . On a dyno... heh...with nos I'd venture a guess around 170-180 whp. Without Nitrious... well, 100 whp or so. But I say again...my mods are somewhat more extreme than yours... and that motor eventually blew a head gasket and fried the internals. It was a 5speed... My current ST... a 95 only runs mid 16's with CAI, Exhaust, and Underdrive pulley...for now. All I need to do is find someone that makes custom exhaust manifolds and have them do a 7A turbo manifold for me. After that, I can custom fab almost all of the plumbing for a turbo kit. Either way, interesting numbers. I do have a friend who ran a 14.1 with is 3200lb Honda Prelude Vtech, shooting a 75 shot with an Auto tranny... so I'm not totally doubting you... just skeptical... I have timeslips of all of my runs somewhere... so I do have proof. I was a newb too... but I always knew cars. Could prolly get 11k max out of it with luck That was my first post, in a topic of how much you payed for your celica. QUOTE I keep getting contradicting info. One site says the engine will not meet smog, and yet people have swapped the engine into US Celica's. I Live in California where all the regulations are the strictest, is it legal to swap in the 3s-gte or not? QUOTE is it possible to make the 3rd gen 3s-gte smog legal or not? I also heard that it would take some work making a 2nd gen smog legal also... What I heard is that an EGR would be really hard to add because the engine would need recasting in certain areas, and a 2nd gen would be smog legal but only for 93 smog specs, not 97 like my car is... The guy I talked to about all this said that in his 74 toyota the engine head was cracked or something and he went to a junkyard and got a 73 head, but 74 was the first year an egr was added... therefore he had nowhere to put the egr plugs. He said he just put some holes or something and made it look like the egr was made to fit. Would this be possible with a 3rd gen? 2 posts in a thread I started about the legality of a 3s-gte, from April 2003. |
