Decided to start a topic on drifting, and all the wonders of it. In a nutshell i think its better than dragging, and really shows a a persons driving skills; not to say dragging dosent.

drifting like any other motorsport requires practice and getting the feel for the vehicle. very skilled drivers can hop between racing genres and vehicles and hardly miss a step. some of the most skilled drivers in my eyes are Michael Schumacher, Jeff Gordon, Peter Solburg, and Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Drifting and Celica's aren't supposed to go in the same sentence.

any one ever seen this old movie...don't know the name but seen it a few times at work late nte movie.... well the movie takes place in the early 60's late 50's ... but they have those old american family cars.. the story line is thes 4 guys the rob banks during the day and at night they are cops ... well in one case scean ... the go around a corner and the cars are driffting... 4 door family cars drifting way back in the early 60's .... well it wasn't a drift like they do now but ther cars where side by side going side ways around a trun... then caught traction and took off .. they cop cars went in to a news stand....

but my point is anything crazy that can be done in a car.. welll be done for years... just might skip a gen or 2 but damn look for year people have been watch cars go around in circuls and too me thats just no fun.. or going in a stright line.. i love watching cars drift.. i just wish i could do it like the pros... but i can't .. well not yet....

It is possible to drift in your celica. Obviously all you have to do is throw your back end out right. I do it in my curren all the time, and i have seen and drift with those who drive celicas. And they were all six gens......

Drifting is cool. Real drifting. I hate when fwd cars just pull their ebrake, get the ass out a bit, and call it drifting. But some good 4 tires broke lose sliding, is neato.

During winter, I got to do some drifting. Course, you can't do any other time. I put winter tires up front and sh*tty no traction tires on the back and had a bunch of fun doing it. RWD's a blast. I loved to break the assend losse (not drifting) in my old s10....ah...rwd...i miss you

For now, I'll just go slap my head against a wall.

EDIT: Unless your talking about all GT4's, it which, yes, its possible to drift. Unless your talking about GT4's my head will still be banging against the wall....

*laughs* God... rolleyes.gif

I think I've gone over this too many times for all of those who wish to drift their fwd cars and be cool. The verb "drift" is basically losing traction in all 4 wheels. The noun "drift" or "drifting" is one's ability to control the verb "drift". Something like that. FWD cars cannot do the noun, cause they cannot maintain the verb. It's not just sliding the rear-out... which FWD cars don't do very well or very normally either.

I'm gonna go join TI on the wall now... *smack*

Nope.

Seriously, on snow or gravel I can get the back out, and hold it there for a fair while.

On wet tarmac I can nail the throttle in ever gear and the Proxies just get on with it.
On dry tarmac, not a chance. And that's lowered with a rear swaybar set very stiff.

Ok what would it be called if I get my celi to slide around a turn not using the parking brake? would that just be a power slide?

Cause I know Im not drifting, I have seen 240 drift videos and there is no way a celi could do that, unless its a gt4 and even then it would be different...

All I know is I have gotten good enough with the celi to have it slide around turns using only the acclerator and the regular brakes, although I drove a nissan frontier and know what it is to "drift" around a turn, and this is not what im doing..

drifting is as much of a sport as figureskating. its style-based with technical elements that need to be accomplished. sure you can take your FWD car out to a drift competition and enter it but chances are you wont do well. call it what you want. drifting, powersliding, ass draging... it just takes practice to get good enough for people to say "oh wow cool!! look!!" ... but it takes very very little skill to make your buddy in the passanger seat piss his pants....... actually the less skill you have the better chances you will make your buddy wet himself hehe
