When I got my car from the dealer, I also purchased an extended warranty. It wasn't much more, and I figured I could save some money down the road, so why the hell not. Its already saved me from: Front Right Wheel bearing replacement, Tapping a larger oil return hole in pan for turbo, Fuel tank/line work, and other inspections/tests.
Obviously I'd like to swap the engine or tranny if I could, but I'm sure at some point the warranty company will ask whatever tech I bring it into, if there are any mods on it. I figure taking off the turbo would be a must, and that I could get away with some of my other mods. My main question is: What all am I going to have to tune down? I know injectors for one. But...FPR? Fuel Pump? Everythings listed in profile. In a related issue, I have an extra CT26 core that I don't have much need for. If someone has an extra header laying around, I'd be willing to discuss some trades. Thanks for the input. -------------------- ![]() |

Didn't you buy it with that turbo already on it? I thought you got it from Mike Dodson though, and not a dealer.

the timing is changed because of the turbo. If you take the turbo out and dont redo the timing you could screw up the engine

Nope Mike sold it to a dealer.
I don't see why I'd consider getting rid of the car. The only reason I want to go NA is to qualify for free engine replacements under the warranty. Even if this ride turned into a huge rebuilding project, I still wouldn't get rid of it, doubt I ever will. Sure I plan to get an LSD tranny, and swap in a 3SGTE...but might as well have fresh internals if I could in the mean time. So didn't the dealer sell you the car in the current condition(with turbo and stuff?) If so, it seems as if your warrany should cover the stuff that the car came with.

Dude, the turbo was on the dealer when u bought it, right? Mike had all that stuff done. Therefore, the warrenty covers it.
You said the warrenty had: QUOTE Its already saved me from: Front Right Wheel bearing replacement, Tapping a larger oil return hole in pan for turbo, So they made a larger oil return hole in the pan for the turbo? But you're saying you want to take off the turbo so everything will be covered under warrenty? You're not making much sense. This post has been edited by shid: Jan 20, 2005 - 4:29 PM |

Nope, the warranty won't cover it. Not only is it not included in the plan, but the warranty also states that the vehicle is not eligible if modified outside the manufactures specifications.
I'm sure that would fly if the dealer registered it as a GT-Four, but I'm sure they know that '96 GT ST204s don't come turboed. If the warranty company even caught a hint of the word 'aftermarket', I would be SOL. QUOTE(shid @ Jan 20, 2005 - 1:57 PM) So they made a larger oil return hole in the pan for the turbo? But you're saying you want to take off the turbo so everything will be covered under warrenty? You're not making much sense. That job I actually had done before I took it off the lot. It was leaking oil, and I told them to fix it. They had their private shop do the work, and said that the warranty would cover the cost. I doubt they even called it in, and just ate the small bill. Wasn't that much of a deal. Now if I told them I needed to swap an engine or tranny, since its a larger job I'm sure questions will be asked. They sold you the car and the warrenty covering the car as they sold it. You haven't done jack to the car since then.
Furthermore, why the heck did you buy a warrenty then when you knew it didn't cover anything? Take it to the dealer to have work done on it. if they bitch, they sold the car to you, and the warrenty to 'cover' it. |

"modified outside the manufactures specifications" doesn't mean, modified after I bought it from the dealer. It was not a Toyota Dealership. I'm sure Toyota wouldn't even touch this car, as if I'd even want them to. It means modified from its original STOCK specifications. Along with a list of other things, the warranty does cover: the engine, tranny, AC, power everything, axle assembly, clutch, etc. So for an extra ~$1,200, I don't see why I wouldn't get it. The fuel tank/line, and wheel bearings jobs already saved me ~$400+. I could take it back to the dealers shop, but from the past experiences and turn around times, I'd much rather bring it somewhere else. I don't have a problem pulling the turbo and doing the swap, so I figured it'll also be nice to have a header and setup if I ever needed to go NA for a quick turbo rebuild, or something else. -------------------- ![]() |

Who sold you the warrenty? The dealership you bought it from?
QUOTE Along with a list of other things, the warranty does cover: the engine, tranny, AC, power everything, axle assembly, clutch, etc. Currentyly, according to you, the warrenty does not cover your engine, your tranny, your axles, or your clutch. You've also got an aftermarket fuel pump in there, so I don't see how your warrenty covered your fuel tank and line repairs. |

Yep, bought the warranty from the dealer. It covers everything but the turbo. I'd be very interested in whatever warranty replaces aftermarket parts. That would be nice. I guess I could have made a topic 'Lets discuss Eric's warranty options'. But didn't think that'd be too exciting. They didn't replace the fuel pump, but they did replace, lines, gaskets, and o rings. My neighbor owns the shop I brought it in to, so I'm sure they didn't have a problem getting that taken care of. Probably didn't mention an aftermarket pump, if any questions were asked on such a small repair. This post has been edited by erics1one: Jan 21, 2005 - 12:37 PM -------------------- ![]() |

OKAY BACK ON TOPIC
So when the dreadful NA conversion takes place, I'll be replacing the injectors & retiming. So the Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump will be okay? Will the Vortech Boost Rising FPR hurt anything if left inline? This post has been edited by erics1one: Jan 31, 2005 - 4:13 PM -------------------- ![]() |
