either a custom front mount intercooler or a cold air intake

i would not recommend getting the injen or any other short ram intake

I was wondering this too. Are there any that we don't have to custom fit?

There's nothing wrong with the Injen, infact its not much different. Your not going to see any difference between a Short Ram and a CAI. In my opinion, my Injen sounds better than my old CAI, and I think it feels like it wants to go better. But this is all just my opinion, and I have a pathetic ST (*stabs*).

He, I'll sell you my Weapon-R Dragon. $130 used for less than a month. It gave my car more kick, and it sounds evil! If you're wondering, I need side skirts...

A lot of people have different opinions about filters and intakes, I had the drop in K&N in the stock box, and thought a short ram would add at least a new look and sound, from the stories and the claims of K&N filters, I didn't expect too much on the HP increase, I chose the Weapon R (which doesn't require custom work, maybe a slightly smaller battery), and just like fallen hero says here , sounds great! I have the ST, I topped out at 5600 RPM even w/the K&N, (installed dragon, 6100 RPM red lined in first), also notice a increase topping out in 3rd..not a huge increase in power, but the sound diffently makes to want to push it even harder. I did however change out the Dragon filter here recently w/a universal K&N cone. I thought the Dragon filter sucked, it looks and feels pretty cheap, Simply put, don't expect a huge diff. maybe a slight increase red lining, but I'm extremly happy w/it. Nothing but SMILES when you floor it! biggrin.gif

I was looking around for some intake also, I see alot of people on here have gone with the Weapon R or the Injen, But someone also said that he had a CAI, I was wondering who makes a CAI for a 99 Celica GT, I have also reviewed the post of the INJEN intake system, where someone asked if it was a CAI or a Short Ram..So Im still clueless as to whether it is infact a short ram or a CAI... I kinda figured it was a CAI cause the price for the Injen is like 238.00. (and thats a BLOW to the Wallet!)

The Injen short-ram is made for the GT... which has a larger space in the area it fits in... I have a large battery (the previous owner had bought it) and mine didn't fit until I took out some plastic casings on the side of the bay (they were empty anyhow). So basically, yeah, it'll be a very tight fit in the ST and your battery may cause a problem. In any case, I think it's pretty much pointless... I didn't see any change at all in performance with mine. Again, with NA cars and one as slow as my ST, it's not really worth it...the basic premise is that it's less restrictive of the air flow in the throttle body... but only so much air can passively flow in, even if you had no restriction at all...that's when forced induction comes in.

I have the Weapon R for my 95 GT, the install was super easy, took me an hour and I was pretty slow, hehehe. I have the same size battery as ever, actually a little bigger. I love the sound of the intake and i noticed a solid performance gain at ~3500rpm's you can tell it picked some up. I mean, super duper, but it was noticable.

I think youre referring to my thread.......I contacted the website that had them for sale, and unfortunately they said it was only a short ram with a heat-shield.

In all seriousness, to those who "felt" a difference...do you think you have the expertise to feel the whole 2-3 (or even 5 to be generous) HP that was picked up? It's like a whole 2% of your original HP. That's a -very small- margin to differentiate between. I mean, it's my opinion that the 'feeling' is just in your head...because it's natural to want to believe it made a difference. I bought one, and as much as I wanted to believe the car was faster, I noticed nothing (no, it's not defective.)

THANK YOU

Mage we have had our differences in the past but I 100% agree with you.

The only thing that would ever give you any kind of felt difference is an intercooler or cold air intake. The short ram ones only suck in hot air from the engine bay. The injen, dragon, weapon-r is just a waste of money. Yeah, they do sound cool but damn. 150+ for sound. Buy some speakers.

Well, It felt different. Maybe it was in my head, but I liked it. smile.gif
I installed the weapon-R in about 15-20 minutes. It's nothing. No mods, you take out the stock pieces, and bolt on the weapon R.

The best way to short ram a car is to go to your local parts store and buy a K&N Filter designed for a Chevy V10 this sucker is huge(about the size of 2.5 cone filters). Buy some PVC pipe and get creative. I had a INJEN and the V10 filter blows it away. I have a Greddy Exhaust and when i rev my engine the only thing people talk aboiut is how cool my intake sounds. Then When i show it to them they are even more impressed. Gimme a couple days and i will put picks of it up on my profile. Oh yeh, the who thing costs $60 for filter and $5 for Pcv pipes. biggrin.gif It rocks and gives the same or a little more power than INJEN (Considering what minute gains are accomplished by using an intake system.)
Any questions PM me.

So I heard the K & N filter is way better than the one that comes with the weapon R. How often to you have to clean/replace these filters? Do they get dirty easier cause they're not in a plastic box like the stock ones? biggrin.gif

for a k&n you don't have to clean it very often, and i have heard it isn't that hard, you can just buy a little cleaning kit form them. but i have heard the the blitz cones are the easiest. you just have to pretty much take the cone off and shake all the crap off and if comes off nice and easily. has anyone else heard this? or does anyone have a blitz cone?

so someone fill me in on this...
the weapon R is just a Short Ram like the Injen?

also, has anyone tried that method of connecting TWO intakes from a honda del sol or whatnot, and this is supposed to be direct fitting to go to the bottom of our front bumper?

The weapon-R dragon filter supposedly has better flow and all that goodness than any of them. It's on;y problem is it won't last because it's foam. After six months, you get a new filter. The think to do is buy a short ram, then when the filter is gone you get a K&N to replace it. I'd thought of buying a piece of 3" pipe to connect to my Dragon while it was on. Technically, it would be in cold air territory. You could get a muffler shop to bend the pipe and fit it into your fender and be in good shape.

My experience from the pod filters (and my reverse CAI) is all good. I seriously actually noticed a difference from it.

The increase is not really in terms of HP, but in throttle response, and smoother revving of the engine. My car feels like it drives through the gears a lot smoother (and revs higher).

The increase in speed is more from the better gear changes/higher revs than any HP increase.

IMO anyway.
