Toyota Avensis
--------------
The Geneva motor show promised us the cream of the crop of new
models – and they didn’t disappoint!

Included in the line up, is Toyotas two brand new 2.2 litre D-4D
engines for the Avensis.

The brand new 2.2 litre D-4D will be available in the UK from
June 2005, comprising a lightweight, all aluminium construction,
a maximum of 148bhp with a top speed of 130mph and 0-62 in just
9.3 seconds!

The environment will benefit too, with a combined cycle fuel
consumption of just 41.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 157 g/km.

Add to that, Toyotas revolutionary new 2.2 litre D-4D Clean
Power engine, which Toyota are hoping to introduce to the
Avensis range in 2006. Comprising of a Toyota D-CAT (Diesel
Clean Advanced Technology) system, it makes the engines the
cleanest on the market for combined nitrogen oxides and
particulate matter emissions.

Looks pretty promising. Base HP of 148, i wonder what torque numbers are, i'll do some research and look. This could be our next swap guys. If it's been modified to just have good emissions, then we could really easily work with this engine, simple mods making better power.

Here's numbers on the diesel engine.

The Toyota D-4D engine develops around 130kW (180hp), a figure substantially above the 1.9 to 2.2-litre category and only matched by higher-displacement V6 diesel engines. The same applies to the maximum torque of 400Nm.

It will be interesting to see how the final engine performs - and whether Toyota's claims of 130kW and 400Nm translate to soul-stirring power on the road.

5-6 is bloody rapid.

Sub 10 for a weasel is not bad.

The important bit is the torque. 400Nm is enough torque to pull your house down.

Trust me on this. I have a lot of power, and I've been shocked by the in gear response of quite a few modern TDIs.....

Wow! those are good specs for a disel. Thats nice that someone came out with a lightweight AL disel. Ive heard about companies trying to do that for a while, since massive weight is one of the downfalls of the disel engine.

Diesels are all low end torque. The numbers a diesel can put up are amazing. It is NOT however, a performance engine.

Depends how you define 'performance'.

The new twin turbo BMW 3 litre puts down more torque than the V10 M5, and is effortlessly fast.

What I dislike about oil burners is:
1) Noise
2) *Very* limited powerbands.

Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Boost.
Torque.
Revlimiter.
