I am thinking about doing some auto crossing and was wondering if anyone else goes auto crossing in their celica. I was also wondering what would be a good and agressive spring suspension set up for this.

I have been doing some autocross and I see you celica is all stock like mine, so first I would suggest to run in G-stock so you can see the limits of your car. If you change your springs you will be out of stock classes, so the next step would be STS, in that case i would go with Eibach Sportline and run some light 15" wheels.

light weight wheels yup no more then 16"
as for springs i'd run coilover setup
tein, d2, ground control, arospeed

for the last two i'd run them with koni yellow struts

rear gt4 brace, front dodge neon or TRD
suspension technique sway bars too

dont upgrade anything yet. do g stock for about a year. learn the car then start to add suspension and other modifications. youll notice how much youve learned after a year in a stock car.

oh yeah one of the older guys once told me something that ill never forget "the cleaner the line the faster the time"

Great. Thanks for all the tips! BTW if I get sway bars that won't put me out of the stock class will it? Just wondering because I am trying to get some on a GB.

Oh yeah, why is it better to run with rims that are no more that 16"? Is that just for weight? I still have that stock rims that came on the car (14" BBS).

well after 16" you lose handling
like on my 14" rims i'm a go kart
on my 18" its not so much go kart

larger rims are heavier, slower, more inertia, and handle worse
i'd say a 15" would be perfect but i'm running 14" for autox

Larger wheels can increase lateral grip because you run lower profile tire... The wheels aren't as important as the tires... rolleyes.gif It all depends on which class you try to fit in.

ok....so according to what your all saying about rims and tires.....you should run a 14 or 15 inch rim with low profile tires for auto cross....but if your doing that, i suggest that you have them a strictly racing, and if you drive your car to the event, that you change them when you get there......and take them back off before leaving.....

um dan you have a body kit. that alone i thought puts you in a dif class even if your wheels and suspension are untouched.

you could do that, but depending on what class your running your car will be setup for that already. its not like you are driving around with 18s and no suspension and just swap out for 14s.

IMO 16s or 15s are the best way to go... 14s you have to run some really high pressures to keep the sidewall from rolling over... if you run 14s id make sure to chalk the tires to check tire roll (probably should do this reguardless the size tire). wheels are really only important for rotational inertia and width, the tires are really what matters, the more contact patch you can put down the better, best thing to do is read the SCCA rule book to find out what is legal to stay in your class, things like wheels or any suspension part will knock you up a class, things that are not OE on your trim of vehicle will knock you out of your class as well.
