You never haff to do anything. Letting something like that go will eventually cause more problems. I ran for about 3-4 months with now right mount (the one next to the fire wall). I'd get it repaired, that one really doesn't cost to much.

left/front impact in a ditch. can i replace myself without taking anything else apart?

Yeah, of course. Just get in there and you'll see how easy it is. The only thing I'd be conserned about is saving the hold for the mount. The little rubber circle thing and the piece that conects it to that lower brace is the mount. The "U" looking thing is some other piece. You might be able to pull the whole thing off there and straten it yourself, but most likely you'll need a new mount. Look for cracks or breaks in the rubber part of the mount. It's really up to you what your going to do, but it should at least get looked at ASAP.
