There is no 94 ST185
I have never heard of a "ta63". Perhaps they mean ST165. If so, I would stay away. Are those clips or engine / tranny sets? Did you see the "feasable engine swaps" sticky? -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

Acutally, im a long time member of this site. Ive been reading forums and searching for over a year now, on this stuff. I jsut dont get involved in the silly arguments on here.
But my main concern is the after affects. The swap to me isnt that hard. Its how is the car gonna run after i do it. But damm, i just got my reply from RippMods, and thats sounding good. Ive been following that for almost a year now too. But now i got the money and im purchasing this weekend, if not ill blow it all on silly little stuff. |

over all everything runs great.....but you have to remember that now you own a turbo car, and that just needs more love and care. it will be the same way if you get the ripp charger tho. just get ready to pop the hood more often to doubble check how things are running. over all, its still a realiable toyota. there are lots of mr2 and alltrac owners out that the proove the motor is very realibable.
i dont really have anything else to tell except, NOT to get the motor/tranny combo. get a clip! you learn so much by just taking the 3s out of clip, you get lots of spare parts, you get to lable every plug and hose, so that you know where they go to later, you can sell off tons of parts, etc..... -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Best for what?
Between 2nd and 3rd gen, here are the best: Reliability: 3rd gen Stock Power or modified up to 330whp: 3rd gen Parts availability: 2nd gen modified power over 330whp: either -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

A 3sgte is a 3sgte, they both mount the same way. The wiring is going to be different from year to year. There are a few suttle differences between generations, types of turbo's etc.. You really should take the time and search. |

I'd go with 3rd gen. The engines all share the same "Essential" parts, such as waterpump, timing belt, gaskets, etc... The Only major differences is the intercooler, turbo, and ECU (MAP)...

This whole web site is about what everyone has done, correct? Ive done a lot of research, and searching on here, read all the forums, and this would be called researching also. The only way to know if something is a sure thing when it comes to swapping is to talk to people that have already did it. The things im trieing to find out is like the wiring, you say on certain years the wiring is different. Well those are the things i want to know. As for rushing into things, i have not bought anything yet. And im not purchasing in till i have all the facts. This post has been edited by sapperk: Jun 7, 2005 - 5:25 AM |

The Only major differences is the intercooler, turbo, and ECU (MAP)... Here is a list of differences: - MAP sensor instead of AFM - Bosch D-Jetronic (Gen III) vs. L-Jetronic (relatively primitive) engine management - CT20b turbo replaces CT26 - Boost raised from 10psi to 13psi - Fuel cut raised from 12 psi to 18 psi - Different ECU - 4 wire O2 sensor - Shim under bucket valve shims - slightly more aggressive cams - Revised internals (pistons, con-rods etc.) - Revised cylinder head cooling passages/water jackets - Revised intake manifold (8 'independent long ports' reduced to 4) - intake manifold inlet air temperature sensor added. i.e. after turbo and intercooler. - lower compression ratio - stainless steel head gasket - factory 540cc injectors replace 440cc injectors - revised fuel rail with bigger bore and relocated pressure regulator - TVIS eliminated - EGR eliminated - throttle body increased from 55mm to 60mm - inlet valve lift increased from 8.2 to 8.7 - intake manifold inlet air temperature sensor added - Less restrictive exhaust elbow - Aluminum oil pan - more rigid alloy sump and additional oil baffles - Factory Catch can - Better Oil Cooler and relocated oil filter (bottom) - 4 Channel ABS coupled with Traction Control available - No. 1 compression ring described as 'stainless steel' instead of just 'steel'. Oil ring is described as 'stainless steel' instead of 'a combination of steel and stainless steel'. - The fuel pressure raised from 36 PSI (2.55 bar) to 41 PSI (2.9bar) - air to air intercooler is replaced with air to water intercooler. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

keep in mind, I doubt you wanna put a an OBOI engine into ur OBOII car. It can be done, but what a wiring headache.

This is a good thread about some of the differences between the gen II and gen III motors:
Built Gen II or Built Gen III Pay particular attention to the posts by RickyB and ChrisC. My synopsis if you don't want to read the whole thing is that if your goals are 330whp or under, the Gen III is the way to go (not taking into consideration parts availability issues). If your goals are more than that, both will do the job but there are some good reasons to go with the Gen II. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
