I will be swapping an AE101 4A-GZE into my ST during the summer. Like the topic says... Was there ever a 4A-GZE with an automatic transmission??? Why? You may be asking. Because I love automatic because it's less of a hassle for me than manual here in Miami. Yes, I have driven manual before. I lived in Colombia for a while back and there's mountains over there. All they drive are stick shift Japanese cars. Mostly Toyotas and Mazdas. But anyway, I do think manual is more entertaining, you have more control of the engine and all that. When I drive my Celica now, I treat it as if it were stick shift when I want/need to. So besides the bashing, and s h i t talking about automatic being for p u s s i e s, etc. Was a 4A-GZE released with an automatic transmission at any point in time? And if so, what's the best place to find one? I doubt the 7A tranny bolts up to the GZE and if it does, it probably wont last long. Thanks.

If its all city driving, do you really need the 4A? Or is it just sort of a power hungry issue?

If anyone needs interior stuff, etc, I'm parting whats left of my celi out. Just ask.

no, its mostrly for drag racing that i want the gze. ah, i guess i should just get it manual. its just that theyre making me pay an extra 800 to swap the tranny to manual because i have an auto now. so they have to run the pedal and all this other bs. and the auto, if there is one, is probably real hard to get.

If there never was an auto you are going to have a harder time putting an auto tranny on there. The reason for this is the ECU. The 4agze ECU is built for manual, ie it can't control the shifting and stuff of an auto tranny. You would be better off doing all that stuff on your own, putting the pedal and stuff in, $800 dollars to drill 3 holes in the firewall, put 2 petals in and a master cylinder and a few hoses is rediculous. If you buy all the parts, buy me a plain ticket and put me up for 3 days or so, I'll do it for $100 and you will still be paying about half of what they are charging you.

Listen to me, I KNOW the auto to manual swap is probably the easiest part of my 4agze project. Comparatively its just buying the parts and installing them. Took me maybe an hour to install everything the pedals and ****?

I wouldnt waste time w/ the auto on the gze, i havent heard of an auto tranny for it, and it'd be a lot harder to physically get in there.

That's not necessarily true... autos are easier to stay consistent with if you're doing bracket racing.

for his price range though he's better off with manual - automatics are only good tuned unless your opponent has a lesser vehicle than you - put it this way 2 cars equal in all things sans tranny - the auto will win if it's tuned correctly - http://www.levelten.com/ they make there fortune on it

i actually learned that reading about vette's lol - they recommend you buy the auto vette cuz chevy put 'em out stock with the tuned up tranny

oh and btw i feel your pain man i've got an auto and the swap just becomes that much more of a hassle

Do the manual swap, and here's why:

As it is you're already swapping the engine and tranny. So the ONLY thing you need to do is buy the clutch pedal, master cylinder, lines, shifter assembly, shifter cables, and brake pedal (or cut your stock one down). It's all easy to get to because the engine and tranny are gone. It costs an extra $400 INDLUDING labor for an auto/manual conversion at my shop when it's done *with* an engine swap.

Doing it by itself (keeping your stock engine) would be around $800 and less worth it.

If you're stuck on an auto, then you can get the 4AGE 20v Silvertop with auto.

Here's the deal. If you're doing an angine swap that already has a manual transmission the auto to manual swap will be the easiest part. The firewall by the pedal is already marked, and the hardest part of the swap is going to be getting down by the pedals to drill the holes and bolt the stuff up. Parts will cost about $150. Just put those parts in yourself and have them put the engine in.

Yeah, seriously the auto to manual conversion was by far the easiest part of my swap, just gave me a crick in the neck or w/e from being down underneath by the pedals.

Yeah, if you're pulling the motor allready, then the auto to manual swap is like the easiest thing in the world.
