So tonight im going to meet my gf's gay uncle and his partner for the first time. Ive been told hes very rich (hes a doctor, cancer specilist), very pretentious, and very judgemental. Despite these things, my gf loves her uncle very much and i want to make a good impression. Im fine with parents, even the most judgemental ones. But this is the first time ive had to deal with a gay uncle. Any advice? anyone ever have a similar experience?

just be nice (upscale, respectful, and organized) done make jokes (at all, because you never know what might slip out) but laugh when everyone else does. and remember show crazy respect for your girl, because I can only emagine that if she and her uncle have a close relationship, he would be very downward tward straight guys, and would want only the absolute best for her)

best of luck, and dont drop anything on the floor (however if you do, go all the way down to get it biggrin.gif

who cares if the uncle is gay? Why should that make any difference?

Just show respect toward the girl. That all you need to do. Be respectful of the parents, and adults involved too. Remember "Mr and Mrs" unless they ask you to call them by first name. You'll be fine.

I guess im missing the point of whats so scary about this situation confused.gif why is it that most straight men assume that if someone is gay, he automatically wants to f*uck you... All I have to say to that one boys is I wouldent touch 90% of you with a 10 foot pole. Funny how you mention that the uncle is pretentious rolleyes.gif Orville, seems like your more worried about what her uncle will think of you, so just be who you are- if he's truely judgemental, you kissing butt isnt going to change that. And avoid calling her uncle and his husband by their last names- I'd see it as a total insult seeing as they dont share the last name. Assume nothing, and dont ask dumb questions about their relationship- all you need to know is that they are each other's husband in their eyes. Good luck- it should be a breeze wink.gif

gee, thanks guys... i dont think hell want to screw me because he is gay. I was just mentioning he is gay because he is stereotypically gay, rich, pretentious, judgmental. Im not assuming he is because he is gay, that is exactly how my gf describes him. And i do worry about what he thinks of me, because he and my gf are close, and so what he thinks of me is important to her.

Anyway, it went great. I got some interogation, but not too bad. I was just thankful that i can speak somewhat intelligently about art. Hes a big art collector so we had a good 10-15 minute conversation about that. I guess i was more nervous than i should have been, because as soon as we starting talking everything was fine. But i guess ill find out what he thought of me from my gf later.
