Are you doing a true dual exhaust, or what do you mean comes out of two sides?

Unless you're going to boost, keep the 2.5"

There really isn't such a thing as "true dual exhaust" anymore. True dual was when the old carb'ed engines had the intake on top and the exhaust on both sides, making it possible to bring out a dual exhaust. Since that isnt around anymore it is one pipe that turns into two pipes about halfway back.

you have to be kidding me there are many v6/v8/v10/v12 cars that have exhaust on both side as true dual?!
what are you talking about

Maybe he means because a lot of new cars are FWD and the engines are transversely mounted. But the engine still has two sides to run exhaust from so I would think it's still a true dual exhaust, just not symmetrical. Plus not all cars are FWD.

your going true dual exhuast?

that means 2 exhuast manifolds
2cyl per manifold
2 downpipes
then running the length of the car

Nope. What i mean is that it turns out to two tips in the back of the exhaust. Just like u thinked.

Confusing... Do you mean "dual tips" which is one muffler with two tips coming out of it or "dual exaust" which is two mufflers? And True Dual Exhaust on a 4cyl is something I've never seen before, I'm sure it can be done, but whats the point? It's not like you'd get a significant (if any) HP gains.

Dual exhaust won't gain any flow over a properly designed single-exit exhaust system, but duals will impose additional weight.

Plus, every 90 degree bend is like adding eight feet of exhaust piping -- severe flow reduction.

Further, 2.5" is excessive for the 5SFE. A 2.2L engine, particularly one that emphasizes low RPM torque, should really max out at 2.25" for proper flow.

In fact, read these articles before you start fiddling around with your exhaust system. From what you're describing, you'll end up with a typical ricer fart cannon system.

The 2.5" isn't what creates the fart cannon sound, it's the muffler setup. Look at Nibbe's description.

However, for overall flow efficiency 2.5" on the ST is a poor choice. You'd need to maintain high RPMs to keep a proper exhaust volume and velocity for that piping size.

exactly, which is one reason I opted for it. It isn't loud. You can't hear it from a block away.. hell you cant even hear it when I am outside of someone's house, but I can hear it inside the car and thats all that matters to myself and my celica.
