I use a Meguiar's product in a pink jug I got from Autozone. Dish soap is good and bad. Good because it strips the wax and gunk off your car. But bad because it strips the wax off your car and can harm your paint. It's okay to use like once a year, but only if you're gonna wax it again right afterward. That's just my opinion, and I'm no professional at all, so if someone can tell me that I'm doing it wrong please let me know.

go to your body shop mechanic and get some Concentrate car wash for industrial use. so much better than what you buy in the stores. it will literally take anything off the car and it wont hurt the paint job or your grass, its non-toxic. Mothers brand polish and wax is the best.

If you do use dish soap, make sure to polish the car afterwards and not just wax it.

Dish soap is good at breaking down wax, but those same properties mean it strips the oils out of your paint that keep it looking fresh and new.

A polish restores those oils, where a wax is a sealant.

Polish = looks. Wax = preserving polish's effects.

thanks for the replies. i have been washing my car all my life with dish soap. i guess ill go to an auto store to pick up some cheap car wash stuff. so after these years of dish soap, i will use car wash fluid, polish, then wax to help get the original color and shine back even though it doesnt look faded to me.

Great place to learn more about detailing is autopia.org. Check their Learn section for the article "Wash, wax and dry" (think that's the title).

I use Meguires car soap.. the pink stuff. I USED mequires wax, but it left swirls in my paint, which pissed me off. I dont know what to use for wax.. what do you all suggest?

Mother's and I dont have a good relationship. Their vinyl stuff sucks butt.

could be, but with a black car, you cant see the dirt until it gets a little dry, so I end up missing a spot and going over the car again.. I usually spend an hour washing everything, but I am just going to get a buffer and some good polish and do it like that next time.. it will be all shiney.
