Info on Radar guns...?, wondering if I can get out of a ticket Options

Basically, was on a trip with a friend, he was driving and pushing about 85 in a 55mph zone in his van. Some cop on the opposite side of the highway flips it around and starts following us. By the time hes turned around we are definetly going under 70. He follows us for half a mile or so, then turns on his lights and pulls us over. He says he clocked us going 80mph on his radar gun...

Is this even possible? (to get a bead on a car and a reliable speed approx moving opposite of the object you are scanning) I thought you had to be in a stationary position for a radar gun to be effective. Any info on if this is fightable or not would be nice. thnx~

i believe the radar gun takes into account the cop car's speed, i had the same thing happen to me. i was clocked at 62 in a 45 when a cop car topped a hill coming the opposite way. he turned around immediately. i didnt fight it but i wish i had because my friend who has a mustang cobra gets tickets all the time and he says most the time the cop who pulled him over doesnt even show up to court and so the ticket is thrown out. do whatever your comfortable with, in my case it was only 2 points paying ahead whereas it would of been 4 points if i fought and lost.

trust me on this, it doesnt matter who was moving, If an officer hits your car with a radar gun, its accurate.

thus why speeding is not good



you can fight any ticket, but just rember, if the officer shows up to court, your going to lose. Also just becuase he doesnt show up doesnt mean your going to win. If u go to court and lose your paying the vaule of the ticket plus court costs.

id say just pay it. he was speeding.

You should always take a ticket to court, if just to plea for a reduction / no points on your license, However if you go there to argue that the radar was wrong (blah blah), then you will lose. You just have to be honest and admit yes I was speeding, but I would just like a reduction etc etc.

I've been pulled over several times, and i have no tickets actually on my record because I have fought everyone of them.

BTW, I just got pulled over last nite for spinning tires, and something else, cant read his handwriting. I will be taking this to court for a reduction as well, I'll let you all know how it turned out.

Most of the time when you get a ticket and go to court the cop will talk to you before you go into the court and you can try to negotiate with him, but this also depends on the cop. Some cops are jerks about this kind of stuff.

perhaps ask for calibration records for the radar gun. If its not current u get away i think.

yeah, the popo didnt think so, then 2 days later i had another run in w/ the state police because my neighbors complained to them about me setting off fireworks (without even asking me to stop how lame is that?)


So yeah... My parents are like wtf, but they think its funny too
