Well, the clutch is getting eaten up again. I'm not to the point it needs replaced, but it's getting there. This will be the third clutch in about 2 years. The first one burnt off soon after I got it. I thought it was just worn, so I didn't think much of it. The second was a high-end performance clutch. This thing was great, and looked good when I took it out. I took it out because my hydraulic pump wouldn't depress it fully, and it was causing me to loose my transmission. Transmission was okay, but I went ahead and put a new one on because I found one with low miles for cheap. I put a stock clutch back in the car with this transmission. And now, it's going. My question for all who know is this: Is there a middle of the road performance clutch? I don't want a real high performance one again, I'm afraid of causing damage to my new transmission. I want a street performance clutch. Stock just flat out sucks, and I don't through that word around much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: I may be going turbo here soon, if that changes anything. 2 EDIT: Topic editted for more attention. This post has been edited by Bigmeanbulldog55: Jul 27, 2005 - 8:47 PM -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Did you turn your flywheel before you put your clutch in? Everytime you change your clutch you should turn the flywheel.
As for an after market if you go turbo get a spec stage 1. |

Then I had it resurfaced when I put the new stock clutch in. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

If you dont seat the clutch when you put it is it will cause them to wear out fast. By seating the clutch I mean drive really easy on it for the first 100 to 200 miles. A clutch should last you 60k+ miles before needing to be replaced. I replaced the stock clutch on mine at 150k miles.

well, everyone will have theyre own opinion and experiences,
as for mine, ive had a ACT heavy duty pressure plate and street disk in the car since october, with absolutely 0 problems. pedal feels like stock, and the clutch grabs like a rock when i want it to. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Either you dont know how to drive properly or you have a problem. Do you leave your foot on the clutch pedal all the time? Even resting your foot ever so slightly will cause the clutch to wear out fast...or if you slip it alot

If what you say is true, then the first clutch in the car was just old. And this one that's in it now is just a bad clutch. I'm affraid it's a rebuilt one. My uncle picked it up for me cheap, I think that might be why. I'm not sure if they rebuild clutches though, either way, it could just be a cheap one. I don't do hardly any burn out, and I don't race that much. This is not my first car, it at one time was one of 5 I had. None of my cars have ever been auto. And I've never had a problem with any them exept this Celica. Maybe there's something wrong somewere. I'm begining to get really irritated at this thing though, if it's really the car. Can anyone conferm that this stock clutch is strong? It's so small too. I assumed it was just weak because it had so little sufface area. I'm still not satisfide with the posts yet. Next clutch in this car had better last, or I'm getting rid of this thing, and getting a Honda. EDIT: Maybe I should get a new flywheel too? Or whatever? Any suggestions? The stock GT clutch isnt that small...to give you a comparison my old 222hp/220trq 3000GT had a smaller clutch and pressure plate than a 96 GT celica. No wonder the 3000GT clutchs would last about 50-60k driving normal and alot of people can get 150k out of a celica GT clutch.
