As I am planning turbo kit project next year, I would very much appreciate some nice pics and list of parts for turbo set-up on 3SGE engine (III gen.). In order not to have one time cash outflow I want to start purchasing particular elements now.
Thanks.

tom, as we mostly have 5sfe's here, a specific list for the 3sge will be hard to find...do a search here, and i'd poke around on the uk boards and try and find more info

OK, different question - I checked on of sticky treads here and found a list of parts for turboing 5sfe - suprisingly majority of basic set up comes from 3sgte. As 3sge is just weaker brother - these in my opinion should fit it. Correct?

I was thinking about it but there is little Celicas over here, even less GT4s and bringing an engine from e.g. Japan is simply too expensive. I have a mechanic who said that he can do the custom turbo kit (used turbo, new intercooler, new piping, new piggy-back, set-up) for ~3000$. I think that is reasonable, and the guy knows what he's talking about and doing as he has produced ~1000hp Supra MK IV.

Buy a clip or a crashed GT-Four from England.. Take what you need from that and dispose of it.

The 3S-GE is not good for turboing at all.. Compared to the 3S-GTE (who is already turboed from factory).

Make sure to get your parts off the 3rd gen 3S-GTE.

Says who? The 3S-GE can be just as capable. rolleyes.gif

what's your import tax's like them
i saw coplete GS GTE engines 50,000km from as little as $1400 from japan to moscow !
check some of the smaller jap part sites, i believe some of the internals on the GS GTE are up graded.....
but i could be wrong on that......

3S-GTE and 3S-GE have different internals and a different compression. The 3S-GE is made high compression because it's NA and the 3S-GTE is made low compression because it is FI.

Check around for prices and transportation costs to get a 3S-GTE clip first.. And if that seems to be indeed impossible. Then start to think about turboing the 3S-GE.

My 2 cents atleast

Well, look at all the work and parts used in that rebuild.. I would hardly call that engine a 3S-GE anymore smile.gif But of course, if you want to completely rebuild your entire 3S-GE engine instead of getting a 3S-GTE (because it would cost alot to transport it) then I guess this rebuild would be alot more costly, and harder.

I still hold on to my cents.. Getting a 3S-GTE engine from somewhere and putting that one in. Or do custom turbo like nik and playr and those guys have done. But just ask them, it's _alot_ of work to do it right.

Guys, guys... easy. 3sge and 3sgte are very similar except for: turbo setup and compression ratio. First one to handle: turbo kit; second one: gasket and pistons. That is it. As I want to get to 240-250 hp range I do not need to decompress - Blitz's turbo kit for 3sge takes it to ~250hp at 0.4 bar (I think it is ~6 psi) and 10:1 compression ratio. When I decompress to 8.5:1 (like GT4) then 1-2 bar range is available (and higher hp of course) without blowing the engine.

Talking about 3sgte engine / clip import: if I could get one for price as indicated by popstar, I would not hesitate. But really I can't find anyone who would bring such engine for such money. To get one in good condition from UK - it costs ~5500$ from Fensport. Too much, much too much. Well I will continue to look around for import possibilities.

Popstar - do you have any contact (email, website) to the people who bring 3sgtes to Moscow for 1400$?

Here's a basic list of parts for turbo'ing a 3SGE:

Any 3rd gen turbo manifold / turbo kit with DP. Custom exhaust (2.5" from turbo back would be ok for your desired power level). Intercooler, bov... the basics. Too many options to really go into, but I'm sure you know that.

Oil Tee and line to feed turbo. I used this one: http://www.stealthmodeperformance.com/feed.htm but the turbo inlet fitting wasn't right.
Oil return line to oil pan. I drilled and tapped the factory location for a -10 AN bulkhead fitting.

Any 3S pistons. Stock Toyota pistons are around $100 and are good for at least 300HP.
Everything else on the block is identical - it even has the oil squirters.

There are lots of options for fueling and fuel management. I used some top-feed injectors from a Mitsu 4G63 and the resistor pack from the 3SGTE, along with an MR2 Turbo ECU and map sensor.

I cant tell you how well it runs though - A stuck valve managed to snap the exhaust cam during fire-up and now I'm back to waiting on parts.....
