I've had my car since May and over the past week and a half, my tranny grinded twice when I put it in reverse. I always fully engage the clutch when shifting into every gear. I originally thought that maybe my clutch is going, because I'm pretty sure it's the original clutch, I learned how to drive a stick on this car and I just hit 123,000. My dad drove it and said all the gears shift smoothly, and while my clutch pedal catches higher, he didn't feel any problems with any of the gears, including reverse.
I don't know if I should be worried, it only happened twice and it hasn't happened again for a few days. My clutch fluid is at the right level, but I didn't check my tranny fluid because like a dumbass, couldn't find a dipstick until I was told manual trannys don't have them. -------------------- |

nope don't worry its typical of our celicas to do that grind into reverse that is....to prevent it....push your clutch all the way in and push it into reverse gently....once the stick stops and gets harder to push into gear keep pressure on the stock and let the clutch out a little but the stick will pop right into reverse no grind

Another way to prevent it from grinding is to push in the clutch and put it in 4th gear, and then put it in reverse.
