I just changed my shift knob using a knob designed for a manual, also rewired the O/D to a toggle switch.

I'm really excited about it... no more bulky auto shifter.

I don't care what people say, that is one of the better looking shift knob jobs on an automatic. You should do a how-to, or at least post some pictures and a little tidbit of what you did in this thread.

Well, Lewfx might want to do the same thing to his shift knob, so we'll take pictures from start to finished, because I'm to lazy to take mine apart and do it all over again. biggrin.gif

Well, have you seen the stock auto shifter? It's really bulky and so... "unsporty"

Besides, just about all the new lexus I've seen are auto yet their shifters look like manuals.

What's the red safety switch for?

Also, It's a good idea to use the e-brake anywhere. It keeps the pressure off your transmission.

It's good to use the ebrake even if the auto is going to hold the car. The stop in the auto transmission can brake if it has too much pressure on it, and trust me, that is not a fun thing to happen. Even though it's not always necessary, if you're on a slope of any kind it's easier on your auto to use the ebrake

I always just end up turning it on in any car I drive bc I've always had a manual so if I drive my fiance's car or something I put on the ebrake out of habit.

lol hes talking about the park/lock release button, i hope. you most likely push down on it to shift it out of park, at least thats how most aftermarket auto shifters work.

Manuals are really fun indeed, but I bought the car to communte like 40 miles a day every morning.

At the time I was driving a CRX manual and it was a bitch driving in traffic.

But now I'm starting to miss manual shifting again... my next car will definately be stick.
