hi guyz.. maybe somebody can help me with this.

From what i know, the 3rd generation 3sgte celicaGT4 engine is stronger than the 2nd generation 3sgte mr2t engine. why is it that the celicaGT4 is not faster than the mr2t.

Im talking about stock too. nothing modified. straight out of factory.

weight and drive train losses with the awd are greater. Aerodynamics might play a lesser role as well.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

i though that mr2t was high 14's in 1/4 mile (according to this site: http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/art.../0-60times.html )

.....arent gt-4 better than that?

if i remembered correctyl, the stock gt4 ran low 15's. You would really need to dump the clutch and beat the car to get it past the 15 mark.

With the GT4 about 30-35% is lost in transmission.
With the MR2T about 15-20%

MR2T = about 1250 kgs
GT4 = about 1400 kgs

So 204 BHP on the MR2T compared to the 245 on the GT4 is not that much with these stats!

no im pretty sure stock GT4 is low 14's... atleast thats where the alltracs are at. the 6th gen GT4s might be faster actually.

My guess is just like Kadett's guess.. Weight difference and drivetrain loss.. So the MR2T is probably a bit faster down a straight road.. I would take the GT-Four anyhow though smile.gif

Stock ST205 should run a 1/4 in 14 dead.

As for corners, in the dry the MR2 is pointer. In the wet, the Four has more grip and is ultimately able to use more of the power more of the time.

6th generation GT4's are quicker than US mr2's. The later mr2 models never brought to North America are quicker than a ST205.

You really can't compare the FWD Celica with a midship MR2 in corners.. 4WD Celica on the other hand would be a worse adversary.

still id almost always put my money down on the mr2. that car was made to handle. in my experiences with them, they love the corners and love blasting out of the corners..... compared to a 185 they are god... im not sure about the 205 because toyota sucks and didnt send those our way frown.gif

Manny, where are you for your "right wheel drive" lol

i'd pick Duece....Staley

the gt4 got the corners ... the mr2 in straights... but if its a course we're talking about its gonna depend on the driver

Not really. 4wd doesn't increase lateral grip. The Two is lighter (significantly) and better balanced.

What I have is shockingly good brakes, and the ability to get on the power earlier....

agreed... MR2s are HAIRY in adverse conditions, but no other Toyota vehicle can top them in twisties in the dry. (im speaking all gen MR2s... because you can definatly make a viable case that the MK1 and MK3 are better than the MK2s as far as cornering.
