Delaware Water Gap Meet (NJ/PA), Come one, Come all- October 22nd Options

DELAWARE WATER GAP NAT'L RECREATION AREA
Fall Meet, Saturday October 22nd. Around 12 noon-1pm.

Anybody is welcome and eagerly invited to join in on the event, so don't feel the need to ask if its ok if you come! I spoke with defgeph earlier in the week and we really want to push to make this a great meet with a big turnout....so here's the details-

DETAILS- The meet will be held at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area which straddles the border of Northwest New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania. The location is extremely easy to find as its directly off of Route 80 and has large parking lots, portable toilets (no more peeing behind the bridge, etc. ) LOTS of areas to barbeque and picnic as well as a series of long winding mountain roads for having a group cruise and joy rides.

It's the perfect location for a meet with tons of photo ops, places to drive to throughout the park and towns to the north, plenty of activities and parking. Also for those who are driving any distance, theres plenty of camping available, and I'm down for a campout if anybody is interested. Heres a few pictures for reference-

HOW TO GET THERE- there is no exit number for this exit, however it is VERY easy to find if you follow these directions.If you take Rt. 80 East, the entrance to the meet will be the first exit as soon as you head into the Water Gap, called the Water Gap Visitors Center. You will see signs that say "Picnic Area" and "Rest Stop" as you get within about a mile and a half of the meet. Just keep your eye on these signs and stay to your right and you'll see the exit once the signs start saying 1/4 mile or so. Its right in between the giant gap between the Appalachian Mountains as soon as you enter a twisty "S" curve on Route 80....hard to miss. As soon as you get off the exit proceed past the first parking lot on your right and bear left through the Rt. 80 underpass shown above. The underpass will make you bear to your right after the yield sign and the lot will be immediately to the right. If you take Rt. 80 Westbound, You will drive over the Delaware River toll bridge on your way into New Jersey. Take the first exit you see after crossing the toll bridge and bear left past the visitors center. The lot will be on your right.

**NOTE- Mapquest and other maps do not state an exit number, but its very very easy to recognise by following the above details.

Also I mentioned camping overnight for people who are comming from further distances....if thats not your style but you dont feel like making the drive back that night, theres plenty of hotels just minutes away off 80 as soon as you get into Pennsylvania so dont feel that caming is your only option.

Hes not lying. I just found this actually....They say that its the oldest commercial road in America, dating back 8,000 years. Several sites suport this fact and say that today its one of the best cruises you'll ever take.

I'm the guy on Celicatech. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going, but I would definitely like to. I'd be willing to meet up somewhere and drive together if I do. I'm not 100% on what the quickest way to go would be. I know Rt. 611 is pretty direct to that area...I've never really been up there though, so I'm not sure about how the road is traffic wise and stuff.

Eh, either way I'll let you know if you and anyone else wants to cruise up together.

Nefarious, Drew.....you guys comming up from Philly would probably be much better off comming up I-95 and then taking 31N to Route 46W in NJ. That will lead you to Route 80 much quicker than taking 611, because its alot of stop and go and through small towns if you take 611....I-95 and 31 are much quicker, but let me know if you need any more details when the time comes closer.

The local drag strip has a test and tune day on the 23rd from like 10am-4pm so maybe we could all grab breakfast that morning and cruise over to Island Dragway- www.Islanddragway.com . $25 dollars and you can make as many passes as you feel like, you just need to be inspected by them and have a helmet.

What do you guys think?

Hey Art, If you go to Mapquest and put in Dunnfield, New Jersey as the destination it will end you literally like 10 feet from where the meet is. For some reason because its a park they dont give the exit a number, but from 80 East its very easy to find.

Those directions will get you to where you need to be. With Mapquest or Google it'll give you good directions if you put in what I said before.

so stressful trying to wrap this up for saturday. i have most of the maintaince outof the way now. well the biggest (t-belt) monday ill get the clutch done and the rest of my maintance.. put on the new DP, than im left for mounts and i need to make some exhaust up to it.... hopefully the wiring is 100% (cant see y it wouldnt be).... time will tell. i should be able to pull it off.. for the amount of time into the swap im WAY ahead. (even adding the wasted time building tools *see my pictures)

Crap. We should start another thread on ideas to get you out of work that day.
I really want to see you make it for the meet and post meet track day. I mean I dont know where you work but alot of places will honor an advanced notice of time you need off or if you can find somebody to cover your shift that might work also.

I've run the gamut with reasons to get out of work, from bad stomach aches/vomiting to serious family situations that needed my attention, to pretending to have car troubles. I can get away with these things at my job and they trust me to be good to them, however every job is different so do what you can do. I really wanna see your swap and so does everybody else.

I plan to go come to this meet if everything goes ok for me.I have 3 things to choose from on that day. I could go on a college visit to Shippensburg University, a DSM meet with my friend or come to the Water Gap. Well I wanted to go to that DSM meet with my friend but I much rather come to a Toyota meet then a DSM meet. All DSM cars are all the same to me and they all have the same motors 4g63 and 420a or something like that. Not to exciting if ya know what I mean. If I can get my other friend who isn't going to the DSM meet to go with me i'll most likely show. I'll let you guys know if im going by Thursday at the latest.

opne week, my 3sgte is still sitting on the wooden pallet, cant do a damn thing with it until i get my hardware and sensors from the dealer. i also plan on replacing the HFH (hose from hell) so i wont see the parts till tuesday night!! im really pushing to have it running friday night to bring down saturday. im planning on getting it in asap so i can break in the clutch set.... ill keep you guys informed

your probably right but i hope not! seriously i dont have much at all left to do. 8-10 hours of work before i turn the key and see if she starts. my brother and i work well together.(most of the time lol) i have all the major parts tuesday night at latest and i could get in all wired up and in the car by wednesday night.

Yea if you guys need a hotel or motel to stay at, theres a Motel 8 right up the highway from the meet that you wont even need reservations for since its for travelers and such. Should be pretty cheap too, and its not a dump or anything so dont worry.

Just to let everybody know, the meet in three days will be held rain or shine, regardless of the weather. I have a contingency plan just in case the weather craps out on us in the form of a big tunnel that goes though a local athletic field so no need to worry. Everyones cars can be parked out of the elements.

Should make for some cool shots also....maybe we should stop by there regardless of the weather.
