I have a 400W Rockford Fosgate amp and from time to time it will get extremely hot. I have the amp mounted on the back of my box and when the back seats are up there isn't much ventilation area. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to keep the amp a little cooler when the back seats are up.

ahh the prices we have to pay for good bass.

I'm not sure, ever think about mounting it in front of it on the floor like mine is?

Hmm... or I could mount it on the engine block in front of the cooling fans! wiggle.gif

I would mount it under the seat, but I have people in the back sometimes and I don't want it getting stepped on.

And how would I put a computer fan in my amp? Wouldn't that require cutting?

I had two amps, one i mounted on the floor cuz it was too big to fit on the box and the other I put on an angle so that there was air on the top and i never had a problem. Also, there are small fans that you dont necessarily have to put inside your amp, but just in your trunk. You can just wire it to your battery and put in a switch on your console.

I think if you put your seats down wouldn't that ruin the effect of the sub? Isn't the sub pushing air in the trunk, its acting like a sealed enclosure? Thus if you put the seats down and say your window was open, your bass would take a serious hit? Just a theory, guess I could try it tonight to prove it.

Also I had my amp mounted on the opposite side of wear the jack is, the only problem is I'm not sure if that moutng location picks up alternator noise due to the antenna being mounted on the same side. I have to keep the gain down not to get alternator whine. But it is a great location and my kicker amp gets warm but never hot. Not a big fan of mouting an amp to a sub box.
