Your not crazy mate, the GT4 wing was designed for the WRC models to aid in high speed manouvering and iirc adds 50kg of down force at 60mph + but knocks a few mph off top end due to this.
Also the small spoiler fitted to the rear edge of the GT4 WRC bonnet (hood) and many subsequant models stopped the bonnet flexing at 100mph+ This wing is not just for show!!! form and factor all in one awesome package. -------------------- 1994 JDM GT4 WRC

You're crazy...lol. j/k man! Logically, you have two sides of the coin. On one hand, down force on the rear wheels will not do anything for traction since the car is FWD. I tend to believe that is the right answer. On the other hand, forcing the car down on the road, even if its not the drive wheels could show some beneficial effect. RWD cars often have a front spoiler to plant the front of the car in the pavement, so why not? -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

I've heard this tossed around a lot on this site. Saying that a wing on a fwd car doesn't do anything. I've always taken it as, well, not worth argueing about. I think there's something to this though. If your running at higher speeds, why wouldn't a wing do anything on a FWD car? I mean, if it's said that it's only for downforce on the back wheels, that doesn't make sence. Becuase RWD cars wouldn't need much downforce by the time the car would reach enough speed to creat significant downforce. I think it's just for stability at higher speeds, be it FWD or RWD. As always, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

QUOTE I think it's just for stability at higher speeds, be it FWD or RWD yeah i agree. toyota wouldnt really put a spoiler this big on a car, just for looks, and like u said, the spoiler would be most effective at higher speeds. so i think its just a matter of it making the overall aero dynamics of the car better. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Well, they put the big spoiler on the AWD version of our cars so I am not sure your logic applies. That said, I did some more research and the concensus at honda-tech.com is that a spoiler (or, more appropriately, a wing) can be beneficial for FWD cars. There is alot of information over there if anyone wants to read up on it. The short version is that s wing, like front air dams, is primarily used to prevent the car from lifting at high speeds rather than assisting with traction. I stand corrected. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

so was the gt4 spoiler wind tunnel tested and stuff? if it's fully functional.. how about the trd spoiler? is it fully functional?
my camry feels like it's floating once i get up to 160km/h... at 180 it's pretty scary... wonder if a wing will help since i'm up at those speeds about 2hrs a week... -------------------- |

ill tell you guys this... i noticed a big differnece in how stable the car is. i drove around with no spoiler at all for a few months and the car felt really crapy compared to how it is now.
i remember reading an article about the gt4 that had some info on why the added the spoiler, but now i cant find it. This post has been edited by lagos: Oct 16, 2005 - 8:59 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
