TURN OFF CAPS LOOOOCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
![]() ![]() So they dont make the Camry or MR2 applications anymore either? If they do the much beter deal would be to just get one of those kits for less money, because 4500-5000 dollars is quite expensive. However I'm not about to sabotage this thread....for somebody who really wants this kit and has the money it would be great to see it happen, it's an excellent upgrade for those looking for a realiable upgrade without tearing your motor apart and swapping. Plus, it'll include everything you need and only requres 5 people to be committed to it. I'd like to see this happen though...I personally am just too poor. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

im sorry...but thats just lame. the charger was already priced too high, and now its even worse. for 4,500 you could have 3rd gen swap pushing well over 250hp at the wheels and it would be way more realibable then this kit.
if anything, i would have though they would drop the price to help move a product that didnt sell in the 1st place. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

My thoughts exacty guys....I just didnt wanna bring their idea down or anything.
If you have that kind of money to blow, theres much better options for the 6gc GT. ROMANO, what if you explain this to Ripp Mods and see if they can offer a lower priced "tuner package" like they had for the MR2 on their site? I still dont understand why they thought we were the insane ones for not showing interest when its not even competitively priced with the more popular and (potentially) more reliable route, the 3SGTE swap. ![]() -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

I mean, if its within the $2700-3000 mark then I suppose it would be worth it on a good 5SFE, but not for 4500 or 5000 for that matter.....Jen, what did they tell you when you talked to them?

I would say somewhere under 3 grand would work. But even then, nobody will put up that kind of money to be the first.
I wouldnt. I would go with the the 3s way, its proven to work. the results are amazing. Cant say the same for this because not one 6gc has it. DEF -------------------- ![]() I will return one day. |

Hmm. I would just say get the tuner package if you can get it and thats what you want, and dont let them overcharge you. Otherwise dont deal with them.

they problably told jen that they had one or two kits left cause she just asked for one kit. when ROMANO called, he probably asked if they still made the kits for the whole comunity, and they told him they could restart the mass production of those of they got 20grand from us

Well it's something to that affect i was just asking for myself. but the guy said it cost to much to build with low interest in anyone who actually wants it so yes Ray wants us to purchase in bulk so no one backs out ask him yourself .Ray said that the only ones that actually have it are two 97 toyota camary owners in illinois 2 solaras and 1 dude actually bought 1 for his celica and he was also being sponsered be ripp modifications but never put it on his 6 gen

if the other packages are cheaper can't u just modify an mr2 or camry kit to fit? or does that void any type of warranty you have or something?

The point is, Why spend $4500 to get an unknown amount of power and worse reliablity, when $4500 has proven to get a 3s-gte swap, and a great mount of power with lower miles.

QUOTE Since when are 3sgte swaps reliable? your joking, right? i have NEVER had a single issue with my 3sgte and my car is a daily driver. what do you think will be more reliable, a factory build turbo motor that was been known to run well over 150,000 miles in many alltracs and mr2s, or brand new kit that is installed onto an economy 5sfe that was never factory designed for boost. the 3sgte was tested, designed, and tuned for boosting every day by TOYOTA. the ripp mods kit has a warrenty only on the parts they sold you. ripp will not warrenty your motor if it blows. Wow, so a lot's changed in a year eh? Last year everyone's swaps were breaking down left and right all the time, i seem to remember yours being included in that. When I was contemplating my swap, I was taken aside and warned that it would probably mean maintainence etc every other month. I was just pointing out that RIPP is a reliable company, and their supercharger isn't going to randomly cause your engine to blow up unless you **** with it, while any number of things can and do go wrong in a 3s swap and you know it. huh? i had motor issues ?
the only problems i remember having were clutch, bad axel, worn motor mounts, strange steering issue from loose control arm, walbro fuel pump went bad, none of those have anything to do with the motor. most of those issue were my fault do to not doing it right the 1st time around. dont get me wrong, doing a swap will turn you into a mechanic and you will be poping the hood more often to check up on things. but the same thing will happen when u add a charger or a turbo kit. get ready for your clutch to start sliping, motor mount to wear out, charger to make funny from a loose belt, etc....all because you are now making 2x the power the car was ever designed to handle. if you want to NEVER have to pop the hood for anything except oil changes, then keep your car as stock as possible. I said you had issues with your swap, the motor is one part of your swap, fuel pumps, wiring, transmission, etc are all other parts.

and you think this ripp kit will be just like that? Lagos, stop trying to pretend I'm an idiot, and don't know anything about anything. You know I know the RIPP kit isn't that simple. I was trying to give an example of an install and forget item. A RIPP SC is not going to be an install and forget item, and I think it's a dumb kit, way overpriced, etc. But saying: ZOMG, THE KIT WILL BLOW AND YOU ENGINE WILL BE DESTROYZORSSS is not correct either. Installed properly and used at what, the 8 psi they want you to use? the kit isn't going to do anything bad. RIPP kits have been out for a while, and are used on more than a small share of track cars, etc. If the RIPP kit ****s up and stops working, you can take off the kit. If the engine blew, the engine would have probably blown without the kit. If the 3sgte stops for any NUMBER of reasons, your car is dead in the water until you, or a mechanic who is intimetly familiar with your car and your 3s swap, gets in there, and tracks down the problem This post has been edited by shid: Oct 17, 2005 - 1:15 PM |

i just wunna add to it that tons of mr2 guys and 5th gen celi guys have done the 3sgte swap and have had no major complaints about reliability issues. the motor itself is reliable as heck...hell its built to run MANY MANY miles! tho in every swap minor issues always come up...but thats hand in hand with performance, swap or no swap.
i wouldnt call the ripp surpercharger unreliable tho when used properly bboy -------------------- ![]() ..(formerly daily driven) 3S-GTE powered celica currently set @ 12psi.. |

ok, here is the email i got from them:
Umm???? The 5SFE program has been on the market for nearly 3 years... we sold all 20 units over that time and as far as we know, they are all on the road...and running strong. In order to reinstate the 5SFE program we would need a group buy situation. The GB terms are five units at $3500 with a $1000 deposit required at the time of ordering and a 30-day lead-time. Your balance will be $2500 plus shipping/handling. There is no penalty that’s just silly... We cannot afford to put product on the self and have it sit around for another 3 years....we want to accommodate our clients and appease there needs, but there has to be a meeting point, we have designed, engineered and brought to market what we believe to be the best alternative to an engine swap or a crappy turbo kit. Our on system has been running strong for 30 months and we have enjoyed every minute of it. Please let us know what we can do for the community as we were currently looking to shut the 5SFE program down, if the communities can come together we will be there for them, alternatively we will have to cut our loses where they are. ----- Original Message ----- From: Asher Yap To: rippmods@rippmods.com Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 9:03 PM Subject: SC kitt for 5sfe There has been a sudden re-interest in the SC kit for the 5sfe over at 6gc.net. WE have all been saving to get the kit, but so far no one has come up with the cash to do so. This sudden reinterest has come from one memeber planning on buying the kit in the next few weeks. She contacted Ripp who replied saying there are a limited number of the kits left. Another member contacted Ripp who replied that they were discontinued and in order to get them back, 5 members would need to put up $4500 ($1000 above listed selling price) to aquire them. Is this true and if so why the increase in price? Why the penelty of $1000 to be the first few to have the kit? -Asher Yap (orvillescelica @ 6gc.net and Ripp forums) If anyone else is up for it, i can put down my $1000 deposit. But probably wont be able to put in the rest of the balance until the next year.
