i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I need to know how your doing your rear end for the conversion. I might just go this route someday when I want an AWD.
So how does the AWD tranny work? Did you have to cut anything and wield stuff on? We need lots of pics!

this is so awesome. i have a friend who's a mechanic who wants to see a how-to article on this, and he's gonna do it for me (for free!) if i get the parts for him. he's always wanted to convert a sweet fwd car to awd, he was gonna do his civic but i guess it wasn't awesome enough wink.gif haha nah it was just waaaaaaaaay too expensive, and really hard. but yeah... definitely make a how to!!!

awesome project though, great work! biggrin.gif

Dude when you get that done, we should go for a drive. Mine has been a long project but it came as a JDM gt4 w/ a heavily worn engine but she will be back running for thanks giving. So if you need a live specimen to look at just PM me, I don't mine putting her up in the air for you. Also you can check out mines progress here:

The race cell in the trunk never looks good. :-(

Not going to try and source an ST205 gas tank ?
I know of a few ST185 gas tanks around.
You could use the stock gas tank if you want
cut out the spare tire hole and hang it under the trunk ?

(just dropping in from all_trac.net:-)

Good luck on the Project !

Regards;

as for the fuel cell........dont worry, when im done with it totally. it will look good. what i might do is make a fiberglass sub box to go over the cell. that should hide it nicely.

i already have all of my fuel parts and there just witing to be put in.

thanks ne way. smile.gif

technically couldnt the 5s motor work? we use 5s tranny with the 3s in a swap but essentially you could do it backwards with a 3s alltrac tranny and drivetrain fit it to a 5sfe motor. it would be pointless. but unique at the same time. am i wrong?

Your right, but then we'd end up like the Subaru Impreza RS. Underpowered AWD. The 5s is slow anyway. Adding the AWD would really put a strain on the motor and slow the car down a good bit. Most people who've got the cash for the AWD also have the money for the 3s. I doubt you'll ever see a AWD 5s powered Celica.

yes yes yes, i know eveyone wants updates.

this past sunday we made a bunch of mounts and started to weld it all up. we only have two or three more mounts to make. after that, were gonna make sure everything is all straight and weld it all up for good.

following that, the fuel system will be a breeze.

then theres just a little more wiring to take care of inside for my heating and everything. then it should be damn near done. as long as i can find some rims that fit. oh ya gonna paint it too.

when the rear is near done, ill post some pics.

whats up everyone? sorry i have been very busy lately so i kind of forgot about the post.
haha, stupid me.

well its definately coming along very nicely, but unfortunatley there was about a month
when it was not worked on. all these holidays and crap killed it.

we got all the mounts for the rear end and drive shaft welded and painted. just
a few more finishing touches on the rear and that part is done. the holder for the
fuel cell is all welded and drilled out. all thats left is to finish the fuel system,
hook up the e-brake cables, make a stupid little mount for the throttle cable,
finish up the little bit of wiring for the heater, then paint.

one big problem that im having is im waiting for my rims to come in. i've waited like
two weeks already and there not in yet. and i dont even know if there gonna fit correctly.
i went to a car show and measered the space to make sure they would fit and they would,
but they are 8.5" wide. as soon as i get them and find out if they will fit or not,
then i can do the brakes and im done.

oh yeah, i cant forget the fact that i have to put the whole interior back together...

oh ya, i almost forgot, having a meet in CT or RI would be sweet. we should do it.

You're project looks to be coming along great. Congratulations on making it this far. I hope the rest of the build goes as smoothly.
If you don't mind I've got a few questions for you.

Which rear end did you decide to use? Axles?
Which Knuckle/hub/bearing combonation?
Strut setup?
Swaybar?
Brake discs and calipers/caliper mounting brackets?

The reason I asked is because that doesn't look like the 6th gen GT4's super strut setup. I assume it's from an ST185 alltrac but I really hate to guess.

well when i bought the front clip, they sent me everything.
the rear end, axles, hubs, struts, sway bar, and brakes.
everything came out of a 6gc (i believe).
i got such a sweet deal on it, i almost got a whole damn car.

Yeah, I found out after I posted that the ST205 superstrut rear struts don't differ much in appearance compared to the Macpherson struts in the ST204. It's only the fronts that are drasticly different.

BTW, How are things progressing?

well, if you really do get it working, it would be a HUGE help for anyone who ever thought about doing the same thing. it requires a good bit of fabrication, and it would be nice to see how that needs to be done.

well if you take over the world then you won't need either of them cause you could just force toyota into producing you the only 06' celica GT4

or for that matter combine ferrari, toyota and subaru and make a supra GT4
