5 months ago when i lowered the celica i used the tanabe springs which have turned out to be great, i put new kybs in the back but left the original struts in the front. today the rear struts are already knockin, while the oem are still holdin strong with a 2.2 drop. Has anyone though or noticed that the toyota struts are more durable then kybs? or is it just luck.

If you used the kyb gr2's, then you used 'toyota' struts. The gr2's are OEM; the knocking is more likely coming from your strut mounts or sway bar bushings. I would check those out before dropping any money on new struts.

GR2's are OEM replacements. OEM toyota shocks are made by Tokico. There aren't any direct replacement AGX shocks... but 2nd gen MR2 Shocks are similar enough that they can be fitted (opposed of course... MR2 rears for Celica fronts, MR2 fronts for Celica rears)... but this requires custom fabrication to the strut casings...

Had my stock Toyota Struts on my old celi for 3 years on Intrax springs, changed springs to Tein, left the stock struts. They are still holding strong and no problems with them AT ALL..

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

so the original struts are better, kyb are replacements but not the same quality as toyota originals. as far as the noice the rear struts make when i go over a bump or a ditch which is like a CLUMK i dont know if it is the struts themselves. what should i look for when i look at the mounts to see if they're ok, and also i just remember i did forget to put the bump stops back in when i put the kybs in would that be a problem?

All replacement parts meet OEM standards or better.

Sorry to bring back an old post but is it true since toyota struts are made by tokico so does this mean KYB's are not even all that compared to Genuine Toyota Struts? Should I just get OEM struts.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

i think the bump stops are those foam like pieces that go on the shock covered by the dust boot.

Is that something that can be bought from a regular parts store or something that needs to be bought from an OEM dealer?

haha yea, I only have the rear kyb gr2 struts but not the fronts. Everyone here sells Monroe and Gabriels and they are sealed. It would be hella expensive to ship out a full kyb front strut here. Then again, my friend whos car is hella slammed said he had the same problem and put bump stops. Jeff from toyotaworld gave me part numbers with a picture. Anyway, my friend said that it solved the problem and the metal sound disappeared.
