I have read alot about turbo engines and common problems and one thing that I have seen alot oil systems not producing a steady supply of oil on turbo engines(N/A as well I'm sure) that are making alot more power than what they were designed to.
And or lack oil in the high RPM range resulting in spinning rod bearings.

I already have an oil cooler and the relocated oil filter(I know relocation doesn't help). Is there anything else I can do to imrove the factory oil system?

(1)would a larger capacity oil pan help?

(2)is there a larger volume oil pump for our cars?

(3)can I use a DRY sump oil system?, are there any available

I know I probably am not exeding the limit of my factory system yet, but I am trying to plan ahead and have the safest most efficient engine I can have- So any help would be appreciated

Typically it's not a problem with our engines, but there probably is a higher capacity oil pump out there... you can also shim the stock pump to put out more pressure...

1. Not really

2. Maybe

3. Yeah but be ready to pay $$$ and it'll be all custom

there really isint an oiling problem with the motors. if anything, i think the 7a gets higher oil pressure then a 3sgte does. the only oil related issue i remember seeing is either too much oil going to the turbo or not enough, causing blown turbos left and right.

if you really want to make your setup safer, the number 1 thing to do would be to go to a fully stand alone ecu and get everything tuned by somone who really knows their stuff. the ecu is normally the number 1 cause of failed turbo kits.

the other thing you have to keep in mind is that, even if the oil is flowing well, the ecu is tuned to perfection, there is still the mechanical limit that the crank, pistons, rods, etc cant handle.

Is this something that may be custom done by a machine shop? because none of the machine shops around here are willing to do anything custon frown.gif

And, don't the oil squirters allow you too run a little more boost (crank and rods permitting)by also cooling the pistons?

(1)how do I shim the oil pump?how does that work?
(2)would the larger oil capacity hurt the engine?-as far as too much oil
(3)is there anywhere that anyone knows of to BUILD me a custom dry-sump system? And if so around what price range?
(4)Is there a better oil pump that will transfer into a 7AFE(possibly 4ag)?

I'm not going to take time to answer your questions, and here's why: You're barking up the wrong tree. Seriously. These engines DO NOT have oiling issues, you don't have to worry about it. Spend you time worrying about more important things, like ENGINE MANAGEMENT.

THE DOC is right even with the amount of boost i was running i never had any oil issuses expect too much pressure at higher rpm in high boost ( pushing oil pass my seal even with a reducer)

you have everything you need for now expect rods and pistons so focus on ems now

your right I don't really need it- I was just wanting to imrove upon the factory equipment.

I know that you know your stuff so I'll go ahead and wait till I need the better system(if ever)

As far as a better EMS I can't really afford a full stand-alone system (other than a megasquirt which I haven't heard anything good about from honda and dsm people I know), BUT I am considering going with the Greddy E-manage Ultimate.

From what I have read it seems as though it is one of the better
piggybacks out right now

i havent seen many problems with the 7a but i have seen several with the 5s pump ,, most fail cause the number 3 rod bearings fail i have torn apart 3 5sfe and all have failed in the same place ,, machine shops have told me that the 5sfe block does not have a oiler in one section of the block where it really needs it causeing not enough oil to get to the center of the crank

just to add, the euro STs come stock with an oil cooler, USDM did not.

If you want to add an oil cooler to your ST the entire set up will cost about $200-$300 (which includes the cooler, lines, filter relocation kit, block adapter, and all fittings).

I put in an oil cooler in a while back

the 5sfe has an oil cooler stock. It is a "water to oil" cooler.

if i could get the measurements of the bearings i might be able to get you a set of race mainbearing ,"race bearings made out of copper & micro grooved for better oil flow" i work for tiaho america ,suppling toyota main bearings& con rod bearings,i was able to get japan bearings for my 7afe turbo project. wink.gif

Are the JDM 7a ones better, and if so can I get a set?

yes the bearings i have are better than any set you can get at a auto store ,they are micro grooved (they have very little grooves for oil to travel so the bearing sets on a layer of oil ,not the bearing surface), if you need a set i need the size of your mian journal & con rods , wink.gif

very funny biggrin.gif , i cant fix the block ,but the crank i can help as i said the bearings are micro grooved to help with oil flow and to reduce friction wink.gif

umm, dont piston squirters only cool the piston?
dont they also lower available oil volume?
dont they also have the chance of falling out?

I know on a lot of the subaru 2.2liter closed blocks that came w/ squirters from the factory, people remove the squirters...and they have those blocks up around 700hp just that i know of
