Maybe a drunk driver? Call the cops and what they may do is tell the local body shops keep an eye out for a car with front end damage & orange paint.

OMG...speechless mad.gif frown.gif , feel sorry for you man

will the insurence cover it?
no notes?, asked your neighbors if they saw anyhing?

just a thought.... after such a impact the other guy's car would most likely be in a very bad shape and considering your paint is quite rare, maybe you should go to some repair shops, junkyards etc, to look for a match... yea a longshot but it's always worth a try

hope you get the idiot thet did it mad.gif

Well we got the guy. I woke up to the sound of "SOMEONE HIT YOUR CAR RYAN!!" I ran outside and two of my neighbors where already outside, the car that hit my car was driving back to my house. He's like 19 or 20 years old. I got his insurance info, the cops came, ambulance for the gash in his head. He claims he was only going 25mph and took his eyes off the road and "zoned out". My car hit my a truck that was parked in front of it. The impact moved both my car and the truck a full car length forward! 25mph.... please...

I've looked at the damage and i'm pretty sure it will total. I'm a body tech by trade and it looks grim. The left quarter needs to be replaced, as well as the rear body panel, floor pan, and left rear frame rail, hatch, both taillights, both fenders, and obviosly the bumpers, all the headlights are creamed... The front end needs to be pulled back around... I mean it has MAJOR frame damage...

It's so sad...

Sucks. Totally. I remember tracking your progress on your car and everything from sanding priming and even you painting it. Total downer. Good luck, though.

Yea he has insurance. And supposedly the insurance company will pay for everything. For the custom paint, the body kit and all. Which is great. If it doesn't total, then I may be able to take it to the body shop where I work, and get payed to fix my own car... But I have a good feeling that it will total... Even if it did I would get the full market value of the car with all the modifications included.

Here's a few more pics:

It's just a car. It's just a glorified peice of metal. Amazing, I was more upset when it was keyed than I am now, facing the thought of it being gone. The guy who keyed it did it out of jealously, this guy made a mistake, he made an accident. It's just a car. He's sorry. That's all I care about.

I like ur attitude w/ the whole thing. As much as it sucks...your right he made a mistake.

But I must ask this...what was he doing????? WAS HE DRUNK???? Or pickin his nose upside down? ...driving with his FEET maybe? Or maybe even having a monica lewinsky moment??? WTF???? If I was him & I hit your BEAUTIFUL orange celica...Oooh I would feel like driving off a cliff. I would feel soo bad!

BTW I dont think Ive ever seen you on here before....I'd remember your Celica for sure! I looove orange celicas hehe smile.gif I hope you are able to have it fixed. You know those insurance commercials that they play backwards??? Then by the end of the commercial the car is in perfect condition & its like nothing ever happened to it....I wish we could do that with you car.....*sigh* REWIND!!!

**p.s.**
I wouldnt be mad @ him for what happened either. He stayed & took responsibility. That is amazing!!

He said that he had just turned on the street and had reached down to get something when he "zoned out". The next thing he knew was that he was creamed in the back of it. He said he was so sorry. He was like "I remember watching you work on it in your front yard.." So he was genuinly sorry. I mean the cars has been keyed before, egged and everything, and that's what makes me mad. Jealousy and stupidity. People always think "O well his parents bought it for him and did all the work" and now they'll all think "that's what he gets for racing". I never raced it once. Ever. After doing all that work and spending so much $ i wouldn't dare risk it. And if it was a mistake then o well. It could've been worse, someone could have seriosly been hurt... oh well...

I've actually been on 6gc for years.. I just haven't been on much recently.

Of course accidents happen. I know that. I couldn't help it. It's like when someone close to you dies. Death happens, eventually. But it's still sad, no matter what way you see it.

Really sorry to see that dude.....I know how you feel, I got backed into in a parking lot by a civic as I was sitting in my car about 2 years ago. Everything worked out for the better, I got insurance money and fixed it up right and even got some previous body damage fixed when all was said and done.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like your fix will be as easy, but I'm glad to see you're taking it in stride. Something good will come of it all in the end....hopefully we can all be there to help you out with another project, be it a Celica or otherwise. Good luck with everything man.

That really bites! Do you remember me? I LIVE IN HAMPTON ALSO, and sent you a PM a while back, but I haven't seen you much on the boards lately. Well, I would like to sell my 95 Coupe b/c I just bought a 95 Hatchback. I can give you more info and pics on the car if you are interested (if your car is determined totalled).

Yea i remember you... I'm sorry dude i meant to write you back... i just havent been on the boards much recently and forgot... sorry bro

No problem. I just would have been interested in meeting you and seeing your amazing car. I have never met anyone that frequents this site before. Anyways, just hit me up on PM if it should happen to be that you are in the market/interested in another 6gc. You have a great attitude about this, despite all the hard work you have put in the car. It is not like losing a human life.

If it needs 4 new headlights I heard that alone is $1000 (mine were cracked when the previous owner had the car and he replaced them). Hey think about it this way man SS-III? GT-4? Sure it won't replace the heart an soul you put into this one though.

It's too bad there aren't more people out there with the same attittude as you. That is VERY cool man.

Well the Nationwide Adjuster came out today to look at my car. He totalled it... He didn't even finish writing the estimate and he was like "it's already at $6000, there's no point really to keep going". So that sucks... And the insurance company only offered me $5110 for the car! That's ridiculous! The car is worth at least $5200 STOCK, according to n.a.d.a. and kelly blue book. I've put $3900 into the kit, the paint, and the rims, so I plan on fighting them tooth and nail if i have too. $5000 is laughable in my opinion. I know parts depreciate, but I think I should at least get $7500 for it.

people just dont understand what kind of loss it is to you. you've put your time and energy into that car and all they give you is below blue book price. I mean obviously you cant get all the money back that you spent on the car but they're totally disregarding the add-on parts and modifications that you've done to the car. that just doesnt make sense in my mind.

You buy a house with nothing in it and then you spend years building it up and adding furniture. What happens when its destroyed in a fire? You get money for everything that you claim. its not the full price of the item but you get money for it. Why isnt this the same with your automobile?

Hey man srry to see and hear about all that. kindasad.gif i know when i woke up and someone hit my car i was feeling sick so i can image how this feels, but u r taking it well and thats all that matters. deffinately fight with the insurance company cuz they just dont want to pay. i reported the accident with them and another one where a dear ran into me and because i was making them pay for the damages they dropped me from the plan. so deffinitely stick it to them biggrin.gif

Your insurance quote...was that through your insurance company, or his? Does he have full coverage? Do you? I know that my company pays for all damages...example I have a body kit on my car, and it will be payed for if it ever gets into an accident. So I'm curious to see what kind of coverage you have and the guy that hit you. If they're only offering less than kbb, that's bullsh!t. You need to fight that.

My 95 gts has a book value of $55xx Cdn by MPI (public insurance here). That's just from the model/make/year, not including extras like mp3 decks and stuff.

oooo how s"ittty is that, insurance companies are like that over here they only pay out half if its a write off. Can you not get another person to have a look at it because you dont think its a write off. To me it doesnt look like one. I know it stinks but maybe its gods way of saying we can see how good you did looks whys, lets see what you can do now with the engine or somthing else. If it wasnt totaled i was going to say you could have done a the Honda S2000 tail light converstion.
Every cloud how a sliver lining! Keep your head up. Thanks for your help on cardomain.

most people dont understand, wither when selling or insurance wise, the aftermarket products dont mean **** unless the buyer actually wants it for thoes reasons. theres no fair, by the book way to assest the value. so at the end of the day your extra say 7k u put into the car for paint and go fast parts are meaningless. buy it back and part it out if you think you can get your money out of it. its all you can do.

usually, insurance companies will auction their salvaged vehicles so other people can repair and restore them back to legal driving condition.

i got $3000 from my 4th gen but got sold for $100 at the auction, the estimated damage was probably around $400 only. i could've made an ease $2500 just like that.

I dunno how they got that figure, but i dunno. When i got into my accident i had 126xxxkm on it and they said book value of my car was $9500 CND without modifications. If it was a write off they were gonna gimme $13000..i dunt ask why or how, but they were gonna n my dmg was $6000 for the new 1/4, tail light, bumper, frame straightening, new interor pannels. I paid an extra $2000 to get the enitre car resprayed in a diff colour. I guess that its diff book value cuz u guys have public insurance and we have private.

Well all they're gonna offer me is $5275 for my car... and the insurance company won't budge. I friggin had the BIGGEST argument on the phone with them and nothing... They say that all the work i did actually lowered the cars value. That the paint job would only appeal to a small number of people, and the body kit did add value but took it away. The kelly blue book on the car is only $4700 so they're really only giving me $500 for the $4000 i put into it... it sucks...

This is just people being predigests to imports. It's stupid. I know if your car was a classic that you put a lot of work and money into, that they would almost have to give you more for it. Don't expect things to change, it's just the way close minded people work.

If your car was a classic you would also have special insurance that's made just for that type of coverage. My friend restored a 78 Cutlass with his dad and they never changed insurance to a classic car type company and when it got totalled it was only worth like $600 even though they had just put like $15,000 into it.

Most insurance companies won't give you any extra or less for modifications to the car, just whatever the book value is. When my first Celica was totalled they gave me the retail value and the estimated sales tax cost for a vehicle of that value. It doesn't matter if there's a different engine in the car, bodykit, etc it's insurance on the STOCK car that you insured with them. If you wanted coverage on your kit or different engine etc you needed to get it covered with them.

*Actually just found while typing this that (at least with my insurance company) comprehensive costs can cover more than the stock value like if your subs get stolen or something.
