Hi, just like the topic, which is easier for an engin swap a 4agze or a 3sgte? i havent really seen to many posts about the 4a-gze and i have even did a search on it and cant find anything.

What kind of car does the 4agze come out of and what years and is it easier to put in a ST than a 3sgte?
About how much would it cost to do the entire swap?

Thanks, Kyle

well the 4agze will be easier on the st seeing that the engine the st brings is an "A" series engine and the engine mounts are the same, ...............but alot of custom parts will be needed, i heard that the axles need to be customized and the 4agze comes out of the aw11 mr2 supercharged and the ae101 i believe (jdm) version but is a great engine, i also know of some friends that have 4agze's in corollas but turbo'd and they use a 4age largeport intake manifold and can push them well over 250 whp with just an safc2 and t3/t4 turbo so its a really nice engine to work on as well as the 3sgte but if you want really great power i say you go 3sgte just because they can make atleast 800 hp fully built that is, but will take more money than the 4agze. a aw11 clip doesnt go expensive at all

Both swaps will require a good deal of research work to get them to run properly and reliably if you do it yourself....so its hard to say which is easier or harder to install. However, do realize the 3SGTE has been swapped more frequently than the 4AGZE so the work involved is better documented and drawn out for you. There are many people who can assist you with the 3SGTE swap and getting wiring completed, where there may not be as much help at your disposal in making the 4AGZE swap happen.
For reference to swapping your ST, be sure to read through the ENTIRE sticky in the FI forum that defgeph wrote up about putting the 3SGTE in an ST. Everything you need to know is in there.

The 4AGZE was found in the MKI MR2 Supercharged overseas and in the US, as well as in the Toyota Levin in Japan. Both engines have parts available in the US, however the 3SGTE has been used in several platforms here where the 4AGZE was only used here in the MR2 for two years....and thats it.

Do lots of research before hand about the two motors and decide which you want. Expect a ballpark range of about 4-5 grand for either project to be completed depending on how much work you do yourself.

It really depends on how you do it, the 4AGZE *can* be a pretty simple swap. If you get the smaller 4AGE flywheel, and use your stock C52 tranny, (which has been done plenty of times in Corollas), then it will bolt right in with no modifications. The wiring is pretty standard, I can do it for you for $350 (same price as 3SGTE).

A front-mounted intercooler is require either way unless you want to run a hood scoop.

That said, the 4AGZE from the AE101 Levin (which is the one you want, don't waste your time with the MR2 one because it makes much less power), will cost about the same as a 2nd gen 3SGTE, or about $1500. Then you're going to need a FMIC and piping, which will run about $400, and you want around $500 for extras. That's about $2500. Then labor if you don't do it yourself ($900 at my shop), and that should do it. Less than $3500 installed.

If you decide to use the E58 tranny that comes with it, then you're going to need custom mounts and axles. Labor jumps up to $1200, and parts jump up around $500. So about $4300 installed.

At that point you're closing in on 3SGTE territory, which is around $5000 installed, usually. Again, that depends on which tranny you use, if you want the E153 then the price is going to jump up another $1000, at least.

The 4AGZE from the Levin makes about 170 hp, supercharged so there's no lag at all (not like the CT26 has much lag). The 2nd gen 3SGTE makes 225.

Hope that helps.

4AGZE is easier going into an ST. The C52 tranny doesn't get a lot of respect... but if it can hold 7AFTE power upwards of 15psi... a 10psi S12 supercharger isn't gonna break it anytime soon. If you do use the C52 tranny (stock ST trans) like the Doc says... it's pretty much a bolt in job... then the wiring. If not... and you wanna use the E53/58 tranny... that opens up a whole nother can of worms.

you're not gonna find these at junkyards... simply too rare. The only chances from a junkyard if from a 88-89 Supercharged MR2... and those are rare. You'll have to get it from an engine importer.

Exactly, check out www.venus-auto.com, www.gspeedcorp.com, and of course, ebay.

Yeah I can do the wiring for you, I need both harnesses and ECUs.
