Well i bought a bunch of fabric paint for my headliner and carpet...and i was just curious how i should go about removing the carpet to paint it. I havent tried yet, but i was wondering if anyone had any tips or things that would make it easier on me.
Josh -and i did do a search incase someone felt like telling me to. This post has been edited by JFrost9: Jan 2, 2006 - 3:54 PM -------------------- ![]() I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club! |

for the carpet you have to remove the seats, center console, front seatbelts, door jam plastics, rear plastics (where the speakers are), and any other footwell plastics. As for actually removing the carpet...I think just pull

the carpet is also attached to the center consol via 2 "pins" you have to remove them before removing the carpet

nah you don't want to do that
you'll have overspray on everything and the car wont be ventalated enough....if you want to paint it then you really need to take the time and remove it.... |

if u aren't gonna remove the interior pieces, i suggest getting the powdered dye. mix in some water and get a lil spray bottle and spray over the carpet and rub it in with a rag or something.
just be sure to clean the carpet real well. -------------------- Jared Harwell

yea, i already cleaned the carpets, and its in good condition, but i hate the tan... So i guess my next question is, how do i remove all that stuff? I know how to remove the seats and all the footwear/back panels, i just dont know how to remove the center console and the seat belt things.

the center there is some screws in the center armrest. take the shift boot off and u can see some screws under that.
just look at the stuff and see what screw holds what. thats what i did when i replaced my tan carpet with black. plus i didn't have to remove the rear panels. -------------------- Jared Harwell

yea well i got the carpet out, and you were right phat, i didnt have to take out the rear panels...but when i put it back in, im going to have to inorder to get the carpet in up there...The only problem i ran into was how the carpet ran underneath the lil silver box under the glove comp. But i just cut the carpet, and now im recleaning it.

well, i painted the first coat over the front seat parts, and i must say... i am amazed with the way it looks. It looks like brand new black carpet. its not rough either... I simply painted it, and then took a large paint brush, and brushed over the carpet, so that it wouldnt paint the individual threads down to the mat. Ill took some pics, but it was kinda dark, so they didnt really come out. Ill take some more pics tomorow when its light out.

I used a vinyl and fabric paint by Dupli-color. HERE is the link to the site about the product. I used the flat black.

Incase anyone still had any doubt on this method, i took some pictures of the finished product, and everything back in the car. Im going to do the Headliner when Autozone gets more paint in... I used all they had on the carpet.

I think the carpet looks great, but did you do your floormats too? Doesn't look like it. Maybe you should give em a quick coat to match our nice new interior! =o)
Also, I was thinking about painting my headliner black. I have a white Celi with an ALL black interior but it came with a gray headliner... u guys think it would look too dark if i did it black? -------------------- |

That makes sense. It just kinda erks me that NOTHING else on the vehicle is gray. Maybe I'll paint it white?? -------------------- |

Hmm. I have black seats, black interior, and black top. And it is kinda like a dungeon, now that I think about it. But all you need are some nice interior accents and it becomes better.
