hey everyone tell me in your best opinion in all our frustration of fixing up our rides has anyone ever tried to steer you away from your dream. You see everyday I go to work and consult with a co-worker of mine who drive's an infiniti g-35 on plans that i have for my 6gc. And his answer never changes he tells me that all the money I plan on spending on my car I should save up and drop it on a big down payment on a better updated car. You see he's had 5 cars that he's been through a volkswagon, s-2000 which he said kicked his new g 35 ass on every run he raced it on. well my problem is I have a year left to pay for my car that was on a 5 year payment plan. I am sick of paying car notes in general and i donot want to commit to paying anymore or sign on for another car for 5 years u c what i mean. I see all of the bad ass celicas on this site and have now been inspired to follow the path. well i just wanted to rant about it because it's on daily basis that i hear it from my girl and whoever else adds there opinions to downplay my ride. They all say its immature that i still have this craze about sporting up my ride but in a year it is gonna be my ride so any opinons will help good or bad.

ignore them. There will never be another car that has so many sexy curves, and has a body style that no other car will have. I love my celi, and i'd never get rid of it for anything else. I'm keeping it and buying a diff car when i can afford it. But keep your celi and keep your dream. Thats all i gotta say smile.gif

dido -- i get the same opinions from my gf and friends -- but at least i don't have to make payments on my car and can do what ever i want to it -

now instead of having monthly payments - i can put that money into upgrades

some of my friends who drives brand new solara's - camry's - civics - accord - are living off of bread (figure of speech) because they want to have something new - but i'm eat lobster every now and then -

A down payment doesn't buy you a car. It just is the beginning of a LOT of payments that add up over the next 5 or 6 years. If you spend the money on your existing car, you own it outright, and all the money you COULD have been paying over the next 5 years on a G-35 is in your bank account instead. Personally I don't like being in debt, so I'd rather spend a few grand on a car I own than 30,000 on a car I don't and sell mine for a measely 2k. That goes for leasing, too. I think that's the worst.

Then again, life is short, so do whatever makes you happy and forget everyone else's opinions...

Yeah, hotgoods23, try to be yourself and think of your dreams and wishes. If you still think (no matter what others say) that possesing a celica is fulfilling your dream, then have it.

The worst thing that can happen in your life, that you let others ruin your dreams! So think about it, analyze what you want and desire and go for it ! When you'll be 60 and your grandkids would ask you on your car when you were young, you will be proud to tell 'em it was CELICA, car of your dreams!

I never really got those talks. They said the ammounts I was putting in wasn't smart because I couldn't get it back out, but my parents and friends encouraged me to make my car how I wanted it.... and I dont plan on selling it

Unless you're going to spend 10-20K on fixing up your car I think it's worth it, because that's what you'd be sinking into a new car. Your celica will run as long as you want it to. The quality is that good. Even dropping 3 grand for a new motor is cheaper than buying a new car. Plus our cars are practical enough to use as a daily driver. I like to point out 4th and 5th gen celicas on the road to my wife. "Hey that's a 17 year old Celica right there." Quality is good, MPG is good, insurance is good. Fix it up.

the 6th gen that i flipped 3 times purred like a kitten and it had 404,000 miles on it. After we got it back off the roof, the car still fired right up, no problems. So IMO, there isnt a more dependable, better running car out there.

yupp, most people I notice have hondas and acuras. So its nice to see something different. The parts for our cars are hard to get but once you get them, celicas stand out from the rest. I have a lot of respect for the older sibling the supra, but I ain't getting that yet. Besides that, some of the newer sport compacts are not that sporty anymore. they just look like 2 door sedans.
