A while back I had made plans to do this and Kwanza hit me with a few questions that I had to look into such as the crossmember and steering system, well I checked around and the F-Body Camaro seemed to be a good candidate for parts without having to make all of my parts from scratch. Well long story short I picked up a Camaro a couple of weeks ago and also got a running (and smoking) RX-7 FB for good measure (and $400). The Camaro is in to good a shape to be tearing apart so I will use it as a measuring board and see what comes about. It might take me forever but the thing is getting done regardless if I stick to my original parts plan or not.

If they can take a Focus and put a 305 in it and make it rear drive, then you can do it to a Celica. What motor you going to use?

EDIT: I also seen this done to a Geo Storm. Probably a lot of cars out there this has been done too.

a camaro? lol

all you need to do is swap over the trans and rear end from an alltrac. you dont need to change the steering or crossmemeber.

Because isn't switching an AWD tranny over to RWD problematic (i've been out of the 6gc loop for a few months), besides i'm into that RWD mood i'm currently stripping the 7 down and slapping a 350 into it and i'm putting a supercharged 355 into the Camaro. The rear wouldn't be an issue, i've pretty much decided to use a lot of GT-Four parts and i'm sourcing a wrecked one now. I still have a while left since i'm working on a small budget but the use of GM parts will probably be a solution since they're cheap, pretty strong, and easy to find. I was wanting to use the Getrag but it looks like i'm not up to spending $6000 on a tranny so i'll either go with a T56 and keep power around 500 horses or just source a similar 6 speed. If someone thinks about flaming me over using GM material lets not forget our friends at Toyota decided to badge the Cavalier as a Toyota a while back so it's not like i'm throwing an SRT-4 motor in and using the RWD system from a 300ZX.

If you're in the mood for RWD, just drive the Camaro.

you don't modify the AWD tranny?

you would use a different tranny(probably need to use a supra tranny...)
you can find one much cheaper then 6 grand

and the ST205 rear end you would need to make mounts for but your MUCH closer off with that then a camero.....

I won't be doing the welding or fab, buddies at Project Auto Salon can help with the fab and my dad, uncle, and brother weld for a living. Yeah I would drive the Camaro but it's a boat, the 7 is more fun even though it's a third of the power. I've always said the Celica looks like a RWD car and it should have been one in the first place, i've got the tools, skill (or avalibility of skill), I kind of have the money (I can afford a little bit each week), and I got time. Seeing as the way the engine will sit the steering box will be right in the way, the distributor might also be in the way but thats an easy fix, the crossmember is certainly in the way, but that can be fixed, and the engine bay is narrow enough for the mounts. I did my homework on the Celica a while back and I have a couple of cars with similar measurements (7 looks small but under the hood it's another story). The big snag is finding a wrecked GT-Four, they go for pretty cheap but they're rare (around $3000-$5000 through junk dealers). Hey if a guy can cram a twin turbo V8 in a 5th gen I think a 3S wont be an issue.

But is it the stock chassis or a tube chassis, if it's tube it doesn't count.

Have you guys ever seen that show tuner transformation on speed channel. They put a Toyota truck's engine and dive train in a Toyota paseo.

My buddy has started a project where he is putting a ford 302 in his Zx3, so I think it can be done. Good luck with the swap

You gotta ask yoursef... is it worth the $$? Wouldn't it be money better spent on another / new car?

Reason why I say this is from personal experience. My first creation was this. It could have had a 3S-GTE... but
1) it's damn expensive
2) you won't be able to recoup the costs when you sell the car
3) you may as well buy a new car for the money.

As with the Corolla, the Celica isn't exactly a high-model car - in fact it's Toyota's cheapest sports car. Is it really worth putting so much money, time, effort into an effectively entry-level car?

Just my 2c.

Its definately the whole point of cars (for me that is) so everyone can see wat you have created.......is it easy to just "buy" a 250+ hp car and drive it ............YES! do i wanna do it............NO!!! why?????

1. love the feeling of ma celica is better than yours (faster or better lookin)
2.love to work on cars (have a project in life)
3.like above says and that it keeps me in mechanics and not on drugs and other stupid shyt
4.the celica is too damn sexy and wouldnt trade it for the world!!!!!!

i mean come one this is 6gc.net!!!!!!!!!!!!! read the title.................6 generation celica enthusiasts!!!
its a way of life........its passion

dont get me wrong theres lots of other beautiful cars out there, but the celica's ma baby

fair enough. It was my point too, until it became no longer worth it to work on the 'rolla.

Good luck with your job though, if you go ahead smile.gif indeed it will be unique. a REAL sports car, not a wannabe like the everyday Celicas wink.gif

So i have come back after a year to see how everyone is doing and this is the first thread i see. People still chasing wasted dreams. LOL laugh.gif Good luck dark in your quest. But again ill state what probably everyone else has said. Why did you buy an Fbody for this. I mean ok, maybe a V8 but thats wasted cash to do all this. You would have been alot better off sourcing the rear end from a GT4.

Anyway im not here to tell you what to do, because honestly i dont really care. again good luck on your quest.

And yeah, yungazzdriver, i dont know when you joined, cause frankly i dont remember you at all. But look up that special little word you have their and then think for a minute. This board has an average age of probably 18-19. Im going to stick with 18 cause well 3/4ths of the people on here still think 2F2F was the sh*t and majority of the people here still live their life a quarter mile at a time. Your word means they put some money into their car, not build a race team. Hell I cant think of a single person who is on here just because they have a race specific car and they are building it to be faster. wink.gif The only people you will find here are bodykit and rim lovers. With a few strewn out turbo drivers and a sh*t load of turbo dreamers.

Maybe i should have left my old ass of this forum for good.

hey moron, look at your own profile. Ill quote your bull**** "short ram intake-" jackass. come talk to me when you do something that takes skill.

look at mine again and you can clearly see it says Auto to manual conversion. I did that out of my garage. My father and I did that by hand. And by the way, you type like a 14 yearold. Let me guess, you are 16? Parents bought your car and everything for it. Or maybe you work at advanced auto? ( not dissing on you daniel)

Now im curious as to see what Kwanza wrote. Again, to back my 16 year old theory, can you even spell? "lauph" WTF is that? "lovin ma car" seriously wtf. i dont type like a ****ing moronic jackass. and this too "funni". I've got an idea for you, stay in school. Hopefully you can make it to college.

And again, dont quote something that isnt there. drop in filter doesnt exist anywhere on my profile. Here i will quote it for you "Cone Filter with A/F moved to piping behind filter". And the stickers, well your to young to understand where those came from. Ask anyone on this forum, majority of us have them. A forum member designed them and gave this community a way to show off their pride for the car, and their fellow 6gc members. You unfortunately are a piece of ****, and god willing I hope you make it to college.

and, coom and the mods. Im sorry if i posted a little out of hand. But im quite sick of little ****s that come on this forum and talk **** like they have done something. rolleyes.gif

I think there have been some good points and bad on both sides here. Learning how to communicate on the internet is a valuable skill. I can't spell at all, so most of the time I run my posts through a spell check. I recommend it to anyone with problems. MS word also lets you know, or at least tries to, when you need punctuation. On the other side, no one has done a RWD conversion to a Celica except for in a 5th gen that was already a gt-4. So how does anyone know what would be easiest? Maybe it is easier to build a full custom rear end over trying to make a gt-4 rear end work on a regular gt. If yungdriver wants to mess with this project, I'm not going to stop him. Even if he doesn't complete it, if he posts everything we will learn something. I wish him the best of luck with this project. Let’s all just try to be a little nicer to each other, please. Everyone needs a virtual hug here.

You have to understand, you are 16 and new to these boards. Everyone that is replying to him from what i recall has been on the forum just as long as me if not longer. You have no idea how many times we have seen posts about people trying to turn the celi into RWD. You also have no idea how many times we had to deal with the same questions asked weekly over some retard idea.

This is a forum, when you post it reflects who you are. When you post something moronic, well people loose respect for you. When you post some outrageous idea, its called skepticism. WE have seen posts like this before and nobody has accomplished it. why cause its a money bucket for a car that isnt worth it. Most of the people in this thread arnt bashing him, they are stating how they would have done it or what he would have been better off doing.

So remember every time you or someone posts, its open to the world to flame, bash, applaud and do whatever the hell they want with it.

Why go through all the trouble for rwd? You might as well just go awd and 3s swap for all that trouble.

Just my 2c.

I already have two RWD cars and i'm still doing this, that means you missed the point, expensive isn't the issue my insurance is expensive. A new car would be nice but what's the point I have an 18 year old car that will run with a brand new Mustang easily, it's the fact of doing it. It'll be expensive but since i'm looking into GM parts for fitment that will cut cost down dramatically and it'll still be "in the family" since GM and Toyota are pretty close, like I said there was the Toyota Cavalier, then the more recent Vibe/Matrix. Most enthusiest don't get what they paid and I don't care because I drive them until the wheels fall off that's the point in doing it, unless it's a classic muscle car then you might get what you paid for. Besides everytime someone buys a Lexus they're thowing money away, why buy an IS when an Altezze is like 8 thousand cheaper and the motor is just as good with two less cylinders.

Why do you have to instigate? Just back off, man. He's not doing any harm, he's just a kid who's going to learn something. What he is doing is a huge project, but it is possible and it has been proven time and time again with imports. I think you're just trying to start trouble. He even took our advice and started using punctuation, so at least he's trying. If this goes much farther, I'd recommend this thread deleted. I think it would be a lot better to clean it up and try to salvage it for the small bits of useful info. I really hope this project works, and I'd like to give as much support as possible. I also prefer if these forums stayed a little less negative, and continued to be positive and kind to people with innovative thoughts.

EDIT: Modderaters, please delete this post along with all others that are just petty bickering.
